Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has released notification for 109 Trade Apprentice and Technician Apprentice posts at its Bongaigaon and Guwahati Refineries in Assam. Candidates who hold a 3-year B.Sc or 3-year Diploma in Engineering can apply online. Last date to apply is 22 March 2026. Age limit is 18 to 24 years. There is no application fee for any category.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), one of India's largest Maharatna PSUs and a Fortune Global 500 company, is hiring apprentices at two of its refineries in Assam under the Apprentices Act, 1961. This recruitment covers 69 seats at Bongaigaon Refinery and 40 seats at Guwahati Refinery across 5 different trades and disciplines. There is no written exam -- selection is purely based on your marks in the qualifying examination. B.Sc graduates and Diploma holders in Chemical, Mechanical, and Instrumentation Engineering should apply before the deadline.

• Trade Apprentice - Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant): 39 seats (B.Sc required, 12 months training)

Who Can Apply?

For Trade Apprentice - Attendant Operator & Boiler (Codes 101, 103):

• Qualification: You need a 3-year B.Sc degree with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry (or Industrial Chemistry) from a recognised university.
• Minimum marks: 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates)
• Mode: Must be a regular full-time course (part-time or distance learning not accepted)

For Technician Apprentice - Chemical, Mechanical, Instrumentation (Codes 104, 105, 107):

• Qualification: You need a 3-year Diploma in the relevant engineering branch from a recognised polytechnic.
• Accepted branches: Chemical/Petrochemical/Refinery Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation/Electronics/Control Engineering
• Minimum marks: 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates)
• Mode: Must be regular full-time course. Lateral entry candidates (Class XII/ITI to 2nd year Diploma) are also eligible.

Important: Candidates with higher qualifications like B.E./B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, or MCA are NOT eligible. You also cannot apply if you have more than 1 year of job experience after getting your degree/diploma, or if more than 5 years have passed since you got your qualifying degree.

Age Limit

• You should be between 18 and 24 years old as on 31 January 2026.
• SC/ST: Upper age relaxed by 5 years (up to 29 years)
• OBC (NCL): Upper age relaxed by 3 years (up to 27 years)
• PwBD: Upper age relaxed by 10 years (up to 34 years). Additional relaxation of 5 years for PwBD-SC/ST and 3 years for PwBD-OBC(NCL).
• Age proof: Only Class 10 Matriculation certificate is accepted as date of birth proof.

Stipend

• You will receive a monthly stipend as per the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 (as amended) and IOCL's internal guidelines.
• Trade Apprentices typically receive around Rs. 9,000 per month.
• Technician Apprentices typically receive around Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 10,900 per month.
• An additional Rs. 2,500 per month may be paid as miscellaneous expenses by IOCL over and above the statutory stipend.
• You will also get safety shoes and a helmet during training.
• Note: No HRA or company accommodation is provided to apprentices.

Application Fee

• All categories: No application fee
• There is no fee for General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, or PwBD candidates.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test for this recruitment. Selection will happen in the following stages:

1. Merit List: Your rank will be decided based on your percentage of marks (aggregate of all subjects, all years/semesters) in the qualifying exam. Higher marks mean higher ranking. First-time apprenticeship applicants get preference.
2. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called to verify all original documents including educational certificates, caste certificates, and ID proof.
3. Pre-Engagement Medical Examination: You must meet the minimum physical fitness standards specified under the Apprentices Act. IOCL is a hazardous industry, so medical fitness is mandatory.
4. Offer of Engagement: Candidates who clear all stages will receive an offer to join as apprentice.

Tie-breaking rule: If two candidates have the same marks, the one who is older by date of birth will be ranked higher. If DOB is also the same, higher Matriculation marks will be considered.

Step 1: Register on NAPS/NATS Portal

1. For Trade Apprentice (Codes 101, 103): Register on NAPS portal at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in
2. For Technician Apprentice (Codes 104, 105, 107): Register on NATS portal at nats.education.gov.in
3. Search for IOCL Bongaigaon/Guwahati Refinery opportunities on the portal.
4. Apply against the advertised opportunity using the Establishment IDs given in the notification.

Step 2: Fill Microsoft Form

1. Visit iocl.com and go to Apprenticeships section.
2. Click on the Microsoft Form link for Bongaigaon/Guwahati Refinery.
3. Fill in all additional details using the same email and mobile number used on NAPS/NATS.
4. Submit the form. You can submit only one response.

Both steps are mandatory. Your application will not be considered if you skip either step.
