IIT Madras Postdoctoral Researcher Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering. Coordinated by Prof. Babaji Srinivasan, the assignment centres on advanced Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence, from image and video understanding to multimodal and generative models.

This is a hands-on research role for someone ready to take an idea from problem formulation through experiments, prototypes and publication. You will work with modern deep-learning architectures and GPU-based experimentation while collaborating with an interdisciplinary group. The role also carries a mentoring element, making it broader than an individual coding assignment.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial tenure: The contract starts for one year and may be extended according to your performance and the institute's continuing requirement.
• Contract status: Completing the assignment does not create a right to extension, regularisation or a permanent IIT Madras post.
• Research setting: The post sits in the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering at the IIT Madras campus in Chennai and supports funded research activity.
• Relevant background: The institute considers experience gained after the minimum qualifying degree. Exceptionally strong applicants may receive consideration under the relaxation terms in the notice.
