Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Department of Physics at IIT Hyderabad is looking for a Junior Research Fellow to work on the project "Matrix inhomogeneity and degradation regulate tissue growth", funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). The project focuses on modelling cell dynamics in a viscoelastic fluid medium, and the position is for a maximum of 11 months in a stretch. This is a research-only, merit-based selection with no written exam — a good opportunity if you enjoy computational physics and want hands-on research experience under the guidance of Dr. Anupam Gupta.

IIT Hyderabad was established in 2008 and is one of the newer Indian Institutes of Technology, with the Department of Physics active in areas such as condensed matter physics, computational physics, and materials science. The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) is India's apex funding body for research across science, engineering, and other disciplines, and this JRF position is funded entirely through an ANRF research grant.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: M.Sc. in Physics or B.Tech in Engineering Physics from a recognized institute with at least 60% marks.
  • Additional Criteria: You must meet at least one of the following — a valid GATE score, a DST Inspire fellowship, CSIR-UGC JRF qualification, or a CGPA of 9.0 and above from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI).
  • Skills: You should have a strong interest in programming, especially computational physics, with experience in PDE/ODE solvers using Python, C/C++, Fortran, or MATLAB.

Salary

  • You will get a consolidated stipend of Rs. 37,000 per month.
  • An additional 27% HRA is paid only if hostel accommodation is not allotted to you.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test for this position. Selection is based on merit and project requirements:

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on merit and how well their profile matches the project requirements.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are informed of interview details by email.

The selected candidate must be prepared to join immediately for the JRF position in the Department of Physics.

How to Apply
