IIT Hyderabad Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has published Advertisement No. IITH/CS/46 dated 07-04-2026 inviting online applications from eligible Indian nationals for the post of Assistant Engineer (Electrical). This is a great chance if you have hands-on experience in electrical power distribution, HVAC, substation O&M, or building electrification and want to work at one of India's premier technical institutes located in Kandi, Sangareddy, Telangana.

Who Can Apply?

• Essential Qualification: B.E./B.Tech./equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a recognised University/Institution with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (or First Class as defined by the awarding Institute/University).
• Degree Duration: B.E./B.Tech should be of 4 years duration.
• Essential Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience from CPWD/State PWD, Centrally/State funded Institutions, organised services/PSUs, Statutory or Autonomous Organisations/Universities, or reputed Private firms/Industries of National or International repute.
• Desirable Qualification: Knowledge of software like AutoCAD/ETAP, Construction Management or MEP software, SLDs preparation, billing, estimate preparation, and PowerPoint presentations.
• Preferred Experience: Hands-on work with Electrical Power Distribution systems, O&M/Erection of Substation equipment, Internal & External Electrification of large building complexes, Electrical & HVAC Maintenance, SCADA & BMS Automation, Electrical Complaints Handling, or Street Lights Repair & Maintenance.
• Other Requirements: Computer literacy, experience with office applications, and good communication skills.
• Nationality: You must be a citizen of India.

Part-time employment experience shall not be considered. Only experience gained after the minimum qualifying degree will be counted.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit: 45 years as on 29 April 2026 (the last date of application).
• Age relaxation is applicable in cases of horizontal reservation as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• Pay Level 8 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (Cell 1).
• Basic Pay: Rs. 47,600 per month.
• Plus applicable DA/HRA as per contract terms.
• Total initial Gross Monthly Emoluments will be approximately Rs. 95,000.
• Pay shall be subject to statutory deductions as applicable.
• Working Hours: 8 hours per day, 6 days a week. Weekend/holiday duty may be required as per institute requirements.
• Contractual employees are not eligible for campus residential accommodation by default (may be considered case-to-case).

• General / OBC: Rs. 500 (non-refundable).
• SC / ST / PwD / EWS / Ex-Servicemen / Women candidates: No Fee (fully exempted).
• If you apply for more than one post, you need to pay Rs. 500 per post separately.

Selection Process

1. Stage I - Submission of Applications: Apply only through the online recruitment portal. All applications go through preliminary scrutiny.
2. Stage II - Written Test / Skill Test / Trade Test: Eligible applicants will be called for the written test. Syllabus covers General English (10% weightage) and Electrical Engineering (90% weightage) including basic electrical concepts, measurement instruments, electrical machines, generation/transmission/distribution, estimation and costing, utilization of electrical energy, basic electronics, CPWD Works Manual, GFR, AutoCAD drafting, SLDs, and renewable energy.
3. Stage III - Shortlisting & Document Verification: Candidates are shortlisted based on written/skill test performance. You must produce original certificates for verification of eligibility before moving to the next stage.
4. Stage IV - Skill Test (Qualifying) & Interview: Skill Test will be based on Electrical Power Distribution systems and HVAC Systems. Shortlisted candidates then appear for the interview.
5. Final Merit: Weightage of written/skill/trade test is 40% and interview is 60%.

• Handle operation and maintenance of Electrical Power Distribution systems and substation equipment across the IIT Hyderabad campus
• Manage internal and external electrification works for academic buildings, hostels, and large building complexes
• Supervise HVAC maintenance, SCADA and BMS automation works, and street lights repair and maintenance
• Prepare electrical load sheets, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), rate analysis, and cost estimates based on DSR and Non-DSR items
• Follow CPWD Works Manual and CPWD specifications for electrical works and General Financial Rules of Government of India
• Handle electrical complaints, carry out preventive maintenance, and coordinate with contractors and vendors
• Assist in planning and executing new electrical installation projects using AutoCAD, ETAP, and MEP software
• Maintain records, prepare bills, billing documentation, and monthly progress reports for the Engineering Unit
