IIT Bhilai is hiring 1 Project Assistant for a research project in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. If you have a B.Tech / B.E. degree in a relevant discipline, you can attend the walk-in interview directly — no online application is needed. The interview is on 19 August 2026 at 11:00 AM at ED2 Room-405A, IIT Bhilai campus. The position pays a consolidated salary of Rs. 40,000 per month for a period of 60 days.

Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) Project Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) has released a walk-in interview notice for 1 Project Assistant post under an IBITF-funded research project titled "A Multipurpose Smart Agro-bot for Developing a Robust Data Model for Crop Condition Monitoring and Fertilizer Dispensing in Vertical Farming." The project is led by Principal Investigator Purnendu Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bhilai. The project aims to build an intelligent robotic system for vertical farms — the "agro-bot" will use advanced sensors to monitor crop health, analyze data with machine learning algorithms, and precisely dispense fertilizer based on each plant's needs. As a Project Assistant, you will help build, test, and calibrate this system. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bhilai runs several funded research projects spanning robotics, manufacturing, and smart systems, and welcomes project staff who want to build a strong foundation before pursuing higher studies or industry roles in engineering.

IIT Bhilai is one of the newer IITs set up under the Government of India's IIT expansion plan, located in Kutelabhata, Khapri, in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. The institute has been steadily building research capacity in robotics, sustainable technologies, and interdisciplinary engineering, and working on a funded research project here gives project staff exposure to structured academic research, faculty mentorship, and modern laboratory facilities. Vertical farming is becoming an important part of India's push toward sustainable agriculture, especially in urban and land-scarce regions. Robotic systems like the one you will help develop can reduce manual labour, cut down on water and fertilizer wastage, and improve crop yields through precise, data-driven decisions — useful, in-demand experience if you want to build a career at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics, and agri-tech. This is a short-term, project-based engagement of 60 days, ideal for fresh engineering graduates who want hands-on research experience.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: B.Tech / B.E. from a relevant discipline
  • Preferred: Candidates with research, project, or working experience in instrumentation, sensors, circuits, data science, agricultural science, robotics, or related areas will get preference. Prior expertise in a similar domain is an advantage.

Candidates from Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Science, or Agricultural Engineering backgrounds are all welcome to apply, since the agro-bot project combines mechanical design, sensor integration, and data-driven decision-making into a single system.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit is 35 years.

Salary

  • You will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 40,000 per month.
  • The position is for a fixed duration of 60 days under the sponsored research project.

Unlike regular government pay-scale jobs that add HRA and DA on top of a base pay, a consolidated salary means your entire monthly pay is bundled into a single fixed amount — so the Rs. 40,000 you receive each month is your full take-home pay for this project.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is entirely through a walk-in interview:

  1. Walk-in Interview: Attend the interview at the venue and time mentioned below. The selection committee's decision is final and binding.
  2. Shortlisting (if required): If a large number of candidates turn up, the committee may shortlist candidates for the interview based on qualifications and experience above the minimum criteria mentioned in the advertisement.

Be ready to briefly explain your academic projects, any relevant coursework, and your interest in robotics or agricultural technology during the interview. Note: No TA/DA will be given for attending the interview, and you must join duty immediately on receiving the offer.

How to Apply

  1. Prepare your updated resume, educational certificates, and mark sheets.
  2. Reach ED2 Room-405A, IIT Bhilai campus, Kutelabhata, Khapri, Durg district, Chhattisgarh before the interview time.
  3. Attend the walk-in interview on 19 August 2026 at 11:00 AM.

IIT Bhilai's campus is located in Kutelabhata village on the Durg-Raipur route, so plan your travel with enough buffer time to reach ED2 Room-405A by 11:00 AM. This is a temporary, project-based role governed by the rules of IIT Bhilai and the funding agency. If your performance is not found satisfactory, the engagement can be ended with 30 days' notice before the tenure completes. The Principal Investigator will not be responsible for postal or courier delays, so plan your paperwork accordingly. For project-related queries, you can reach Dr. Purnendu Das at purnendu@iitbhilai.ac.in.
