IIMA CDT Research Assistant and Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is looking for Research Assistants for its Centre for Digital Transformation (CDT). You will work on faculty-led research projects about how digital technologies change businesses and organisations. If you already hold a PhD, IIMA will consider you for the Research Associate position instead.
This is a project-based contract role, and it is a good fit if you enjoy data work and are thinking about a PhD later — the notice openly encourages such candidates to apply. You will report to Prof. Pankaj Setia and Prof. Swanand Deodhar, the co-chairpersons of the centre.
Posts and Disciplines
- Research Assistant: the main opening, best suited to candidates with a master's degree in Information Systems, Management, Data Science, Computer Science and Engineering or a related field.
- Research Associate: the same research work, offered to applicants who hold a PhD.
For both roles, IIMA prefers people who code in Python and R, handle large panel datasets, and are comfortable with econometrics, simulations, text analytics and reading research papers. Knowing Stata is a plus.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The first appointment is for 6 months; it can be extended if your performance is good.
- Pay: There is no fixed figure in the notice — pay is set according to your qualifications and experience.
- Work location: You work from the IIMA campus in Ahmedabad and get access to the library and computer centre.
- Accommodation: You must arrange your own stay outside the campus; IIMA does not provide housing for this role.

Responsibilities
- Prepare and launch research surveys
- Extract and clean data for faculty research projects
- Run large panel data and econometric models
- Create clear data visualisations for research papers
- Review and summarise academic literature on digital transformation
- Support faculty in preparing academic research publications
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Degree in management, information systems, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or social and economic disciplines (master's preferred for Research Assistant; PhD for Research Associate)
Preferred Qualification
Postgraduate (master's) degree in Information Systems, Management, Data Science, Computer Science & Engineering or related fields; PhD holders considered for Research Associate
Required Skills
Proficiency in Python and R; creating, analysing and visualising large datasets; secondary data analysis; research acumen. Preferred: econometrics/statistics modelling, simulations in the organisational domain, natural language processing and text anal...
