IIM Amritsar Research Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) is hiring Research Assistants for two institute-sponsored studies. One examines how family experience shapes the survival and resilience of entrepreneurs during an economic crisis, while the SARBAT-GIG project studies platform work in Punjab from social, algorithmic, risk and benefit perspectives.

Both assignments combine desk research with field-based evidence. You may work with entrepreneurs, gig workers, field teams and other stakeholders, so these roles suit someone who can move comfortably between reading, interviews, data handling and clear research writing. Travel is an important part of the work rather than an occasional extra.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Entrepreneurs' Survival and Resilience project: qualitative social-science work covering family experience in product and capital markets, with field interviews at locations across India.
  • SARBAT-GIG project: mixed-methods research on platform and gig work in Punjab, linking stakeholder fieldwork with academic, policy and public-facing outputs.

Post-wise Duties

Entrepreneurs' Survival and Resilience project

You will support literature review, field interviews and qualitative analysis for research in management accounting. The work includes collecting, cleaning and processing evidence, travelling for field research and helping the team interpret interview material with qualitative-data software.

SARBAT-GIG project

You will help the principal investigator develop research tools, coordinate fieldwork and manage survey and interview data. Your analysis and documentation will feed into policy briefs, teaching cases, academic papers, anonymised datasets and the Punjab Gig Economy Dashboard.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: The entrepreneurs study is planned for four to five months, while the SARBAT-GIG assignment is planned for ten months.
  • Temporary engagement: Each appointment is tied to its named project. It ends when the tenure or project finishes unless the competent authority grants an extension.
  • No regular claim: Working on either study does not give you a right to absorption, continuation or a regular institute appointment.
  • Field travel: You must be willing to travel for research. The first project may involve locations across India, while SARBAT-GIG includes field visits across Punjab.
  • Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a call. The institute may compare higher qualifications, relevant experience and fit with the chosen project.
  • Travel for assessment: No TA or DA is provided if you are called for a test, skill assessment or interview.
  • Communication: Only shortlisted applicants will receive details of the assessment through their registered email. Check the inbox and spam folder as well as the institute website.
  • Institute discretion: IIM Amritsar may change, withdraw or cancel the recruitment, or leave a position unfilled, under the terms of the notice.
