IGIMS Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna is holding a walk-in interview for Senior Residents in its Department of Paediatrics. IGIMS is an autonomous institute and statutory university of the Government of Bihar, and these seats run under its 89-day ad-hoc Senior Residency programme.

The short engagement exists for a reason: the department needs doctors now, while the regular three-year Senior Resident recruitment is still being completed. If you have just finished your MD or DNB in Paediatrics and want hands-on tertiary-care experience at a big state teaching hospital in Patna, this is a quick way in. Selection is on the spot, based on your bio-data and the interview.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Engagement: Ad-hoc appointment for 89 days only, until the full-time Senior Residents join.
• Reservation is Bihar-only: Only Bihar domicile holders get the reservation benefit. Candidates from other states compete as unreserved.
• Category fallbacks: if no eligible woman candidate is available for a seat, a man may be considered; an unfilled EWS seat may go to an unreserved candidate.
• Non-practising post: Private practice of any kind, including running a laboratory, is strictly banned. Getting caught ends the appointment and brings a penalty.
• Legal bond: you sign a bond to repay one month's pay for every unfinished year of the residency if you resign midway.
• Campus stay: living on campus is compulsory when accommodation is offered; otherwise HRA is paid as per rules.
• Pay: you get basic pay plus Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) and other admissible allowances. The notice does not print the amount.
• Vacancy count can change: the department may increase or decrease the number of seats.
• No travel allowance: no TA/DA is paid for attending the interview or for joining.
• Employed doctors: bring a No Objection Certificate from your employer. If you are not working anywhere, give a written statement that you are not employed and not doing any course.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form. Download the application proforma from www.igims.org, fill it in, and carry it to the interview with a demand draft payable to The Director, IGIMS, Patna. Cash, cheques, postal orders and other payment modes are rejected.

Report at the Paediatrics Seminar Room, 5th floor, Medical College Building, IGIMS, Sheikhpura, Patna from 8:30 AM. No candidate is let in after 10:00 AM, and the interview starts at 9:30 AM. Document verification happens the same day, so bring all originals plus one set of self-attested copies.

Also attach a declaration on whether you filled the NMC declaration form and appeared before an NMC inspection team this year for any medical college. Use a separate form and separate fee for each application, and note that you cannot change the form once you submit it.
