ICMR-National Institute of Health Research (ICMR-NIHR) Project Research Scientist-II Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

ICMR-NIHR, Jodhpur, under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has invited applications for 1 Project Research Scientist-II (Non-Medical) position under the project "Optimizing oral cancer screening through capacity building of Healthcare workers of Health and Wellness Centres of districts of Rajasthan - An Implementation Research". This is a temporary, project-linked position initially for up to one year, extendable up to project completion, though it can be closed at any time. If you have public health research experience, especially in oral cancer, NCD screening, or community health programs, this role gives you a chance to work on a national-level implementation research project. The number of positions is tentative and depends on project requirements and approval of the competent authority.

Who Can Apply?

  • Essential Qualification: Post Graduate Degree in Public Health / Epidemiology / Population Sciences with 3 years post-qualification experience in the relevant subject, OR a Post Graduate Degree in the same subjects with a PhD.
  • Desirable: Prior experience in oral cancer, head & neck cancer, or NCD research (especially screening/early detection programs), experience working with Health & Wellness Centres or Community Health Officers, experience in training and capacity building, hands-on data analysis using SPSS/STATA/R, familiarity with public-health surveillance and program monitoring, and the ability to prepare technical reports, policy briefs and scientific manuscripts.
  • Note: Candidates who have already worked in ICMR Projects/Institutes for more than 3 years are not eligible for this walk-in. Your qualification must be from a recognized institution, and any experience certificate must clearly state your role and dates of employment.

Age Limit

  • You should not be older than 40 years as on the date of the walk-in interview/written test.
  • Age Relaxation: Available for SC/ST/OBC candidates (only against posts reserved for them), retrenched Government employees, departmental/project candidates, and Ex-servicemen, as per Central Government/DoPT/ICMR rules. Additional age concession is given for time already served in other research projects.

Salary

  • You will get a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 67,000 per month plus HRA.
  • The position is purely temporary — you will not get Provident Fund, Leave Travel Concession, Medical benefits, or other regular employee benefits.
  • Payment depends on fund availability from the project's funding agency, and rates may vary based on the sanctioning agency.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

  1. Document Screening: Your application is verified against the eligibility criteria, and the list of eligible candidates is displayed on the ICMR-NIHR website.
  2. Written Test (if applicable): If more than 30 candidates are found eligible, a written test is conducted. Qualifying marks are 35% for SC/ST and 40% for UR/OBC/EWS.
  3. Interview: Candidates who qualify the written test are called for an interview — generally the top 5 candidates for this position.

Your final merit is based on combined written test and interview marks. If fewer than 30 candidates apply and no written test is held, merit is based on interview marks alone. You must bring all original certificates and a No Objection Certificate (if already employed) to the interview — failing this, you will not be allowed to appear. Once selected, you must serve for at least one month, and the engagement can be ended by either side with one month's notice. The result of the final selection will be posted on the ICMR-NIHR and ICMR websites.
