Gujarat University (GU) is engaging Teaching Assistants in Economics for the Department of Economics at its University School of Social Sciences in Ahmedabad. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: the appointment runs for 10 months from joining and ends automatically when that period is complete. You must join within seven days of receiving the appointment order.
• Employment status: the contract does not make you a regular university staff member or give you a right to absorption into a department, school or grant-in-aid vacancy.
• Funding and review: the engagement depends on budget approval. The department reviews your performance periodically and may end the appointment if your work is unsatisfactory.
• Notice period: either side may end the arrangement with one month's written notice or the corresponding salary in place of notice. The university may dismiss you without notice for misconduct.
• Academic commitments: you cannot leave midway through an academic term or semester. You must complete examination and related academic responsibilities; otherwise, the department may withhold your experience certificate.
• Work schedule: the stated working window is 10:30 AM to 6:10 PM, Monday to Saturday. The department assigns your time slot, with a weekly workload of 40 hours including 18 hours of direct teaching.
• Work across departments: the university may assign you teaching and related work in other schools or departments. A reduced classroom load does not remove your academic and administrative commitments.
• Other employment: outside assignments, private tuition and business activity are not permitted during the appointment, whether part-time or full-time.
• Leave: the contract allows one casual-leave day per month, subject to approval. Unused leave lapses at the end of the contract, and unauthorised absence attracts proportionate deductions.
• Vacation and benefits: Diwali and summer vacations are unpaid. The appointment does not include the provident fund or welfare schemes available to regular employees.
• Professional conduct: you must protect confidential university and examination information, attend assigned work punctually and follow the department's conduct rules. The university can revise the contract conditions.
