Gujarat University (GU), located in Ahmedabad, has released a notification for 7 Teaching Assistant posts in the Department of Chemistry, University School of Sciences. Gujarat University is one of the oldest state universities in Gujarat, running undergraduate and postgraduate programs across science, arts, commerce, law, and management, and this Chemistry recruitment adds temporary teaching capacity to its science stream. These are temporary, contractual positions for 10 months, ideal for candidates who want teaching exposure at the university level while completing their Ph.D. or building research experience. There is no compulsory written exam — the department will only hold a written test if it receives a very large number of applications. As a Teaching Assistant, you will help the department with academic work, assessment duties, and day-to-day administrative tasks assigned by the faculty. Both fresh NET/SLET qualifiers and experienced candidates with prior teaching or industrial background are welcome to apply for these posts, and there is no restriction on the number of times you can apply for future rounds if you are not selected this time.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Chemistry with at least 55% marks (without grace marks or rounding off) from a recognized Indian university, or an equivalent grade on a point scale.
• Additional Requirement: You must have cleared NET, SLET, or GSET conducted by UGC/CSIR, or hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry awarded under the UGC (Minimum Standards) Regulations, 2009 or 2016. Ph.D. holders are exempt from the NET/SLET/GSET requirement.
• Preferred: Candidates with prior teaching experience or industrial (R&D) experience will get preference during selection.
• Age Limit: No specific age limit has been mentioned in the notification for these contractual posts.
• Joining: If selected, you are expected to join as early as possible after receiving your appointment order.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 45,000 per month.
• No other benefits such as HRA or DA will be paid — this is a fixed, all-inclusive amount.
• Stipend will not be paid during Diwali and summer vacations.

Note: Gujarat University and the Department of Chemistry reserve the right to discontinue your engagement at any point during the 10-month tenure, or once the tenure is completed, whichever comes first. Other terms and conditions will be shared in your appointment letter if you are selected.

Selection Process

The selection will happen in the following stages, so read each one carefully before you apply:

1. Screening: Applications submitted on time will be scrutinized at the department level.
2. Shortlisting (if needed): If a large number of applications are received, only a limited number of candidates decided by the departmental committee will be called forward, in a ratio fixed by the committee.
3. Written Test (if needed): A written test may be conducted by the department in case of a heavy response, before the shortlisting stage.
4. Document Verification: You must bring your original certificates for verification before the interview. Any discrepancy found here can stop your candidature from moving forward.
5. Demo Lecture and Interview: You need to prepare a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation on a topic of your choice, and also be ready to teach the same topic using the chalk-and-board method if the committee asks.
6. Final Selection: The selection committee will prepare the final shortlist after the interview process. The committee's decision will be final and binding.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview, so plan your travel accordingly.
