The Gujarat Panchayat Service Selection Board (GPSSB) has released Advertisement No. 01/2026-27 for direct recruitment to 200 Additional Assistant Engineer (Electrical) Class-III posts. If you hold a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and want a permanent Class-III technical job in the Gujarat Panchayat service, this is the notification for you. GPSSB Additional Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2026 - 200 Posts

GPSSB invites online applications from eligible candidates for 200 vacancies of Additional Assistant Engineer (Electrical) Class-III across 34 District Panchayats of Gujarat. The recruitment is held under the Panchayat, Rural Housing and Rural Development Department vide letter number PRHRDD/0991/02/2026 dated 03-03-2026. Selection will be done through a Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) / OMR based MCQ examination. Only candidates with a Diploma in Electrical Engineering are eligible - Bachelor's degree holders in Electrical Engineering are NOT allowed to apply.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for GPSSB Additional Assistant Engineer (Electrical) you must meet these eligibility conditions:

  • Educational Qualification: You must hold a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Technical Examination Board or any recognised University/Institution established under the Central or State Act, or a qualification recognised as equivalent by the Government.
  • Important: Candidates holding a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering shall NOT be eligible to apply (as per Rule-3(b) of the recruitment rules).
  • Computer Knowledge: You must have basic knowledge of computer application as prescribed in the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967. A computer certificate/diploma, or a degree with computer as a subject, or a Class 10/12 passed with computer as a subject is acceptable.
  • Language: You must have adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.
  • Nationality: You must be a citizen of India (or other eligible category per Gujarat Panchayat Service Recruitment Rules).
  • Domicile: Reservation benefits under SC, ST, SEBC and EWS are available only to original residents of Gujarat.
  • Cut-off date for qualification: Qualification must be completed on or before 2 May 2026 (the last date of application).

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 33 years as on 2 May 2026 (no minimum age specified beyond meeting qualification)
  • Age reference date: 2 May 2026 (last date of online application)
  • Upper age limit shall not exceed 45 years under any circumstances, even after relaxation

Salary

  • Fixed pay for first 5 years: Rs 49,500/- per month (contract-based appointment)
  • After 5 years: Regular pay scale as per Gujarat Civil Services Rules (after satisfactory performance review)
  • Post Level: Class-III (Group C technical)
  • Service type: Permanent government service under Gujarat Panchayat Service
  • Other allowances applicable as per Gujarat Government rules after regularisation

Selection Process

GPSSB will select candidates through the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) / OMR Based Written Exam: Objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 200 marks total, duration 3 hours. Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer.
  2. Provisional Answer Key: Published after exam; objections invited; Final Answer Key issued.
  3. Provisional Merit List: Category-wise merit list prepared on basis of exam marks.
  4. Document Verification: Original certificates (educational, age, caste, domicile, computer, disability, ex-servicemen, sports etc.) verified.
  5. Final Select List: Final merit list and recommendation list published; district allocation done through counselling; waiting list also prepared.
  6. Probation / Training: Selected candidates serve 5 years on fixed pay and must pass departmental exams, computer proficiency test and pre-service training before becoming regular.

Minimum qualifying marks: GPSSB reserves the right to fix a minimum qualifying standard, but it cannot be less than 40% marks for any category.

Responsibilities

  • Handle electrical engineering works for Panchayat buildings, streetlights, water supply pump houses and community infrastructure at the District Panchayat level
  • Prepare cost estimates, technical drawings and tender specifications for rural electrical works and installations
  • Supervise installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of electrical systems including pumps, motors, transformers and distribution lines
  • Monitor quality, safety and progress of electrical works executed by contractors and take measurements for running bills
  • Assist the Executive Engineer in technical inspection, energy audit and preventive maintenance of panchayat assets
  • Keep site records, stock registers and measurement books updated as per Gujarat Public Works Department norms
  • Follow Gujarat Electricity Regulatory and safety guidelines while executing works in villages and taluka offices
  • Work with Talati, Gram Sevak and elected Panchayat members to implement rural electrification and infrastructure schemes

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognised Technical Examination Board / University / Institution. Bachelor's degree holders in Electrical Engineering are NOT eligible.

Preferred Qualification

Basic knowledge of computer application as per Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967.

Exam Pattern

The GPSSB Additional Assistant Engineer (Electrical) exam is an objective type MCQ test conducted via Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) or OMR sheet. The paper carries 200 marks in total with a duration of 3 hours. Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for each wrong answer. Subject-wise breakup:

  • General Awareness and General Knowledge: 35 marks (Gujarati medium) - covers general mental ability, history and culture of India and Gujarat, geography, sports, Indian polity and Constitution, Panchayati Raj, welfare schemes, Indian economy, general science, environment, ICT, and current affairs
  • Gujarati Grammar: 20 marks (Gujarati medium)
  • English Language and Grammar: 20 marks (English medium)
  • General Mathematics, Reasoning & Data Interpretation: 25 marks (Gujarati medium)
  • Technical / Job Specific Questions (Electrical Engineering Diploma level): 100 marks (Gujarati or English)
  • Total: 200 marks

Each correct answer earns 1 mark, each wrong answer deducts 0.25 mark. Questions unanswered get zero. The minimum qualifying standard fixed by GPSSB cannot be below 40% marks for any category.
