FRI is conducting a walk-in interview for 10 temporary research and project posts at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. Forest Research Institute (FRI) Research Fellow and Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 10 Posts
Forest Research Institute (FRI), under the Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE), has released a walk-in notice for Research Associate-II, Junior Project Fellow and Project Assistant positions. The posts are linked to projects on river rejuvenation and monitoring/evaluation of plantations carried out for the Delhi Forest Department. This is a temporary project-based fellowship engagement, so selection will be through walk-in interview and document checking, not through an online exam. The fellowship does not guarantee future employment in any ICFRE institute, and tenure depends on project duration, project completion or fund availability.

Who Can Apply?
Research Associate-II
- Qualification: You need a doctorate degree, or 3 years of research/teaching experience after post-graduation in Forestry or Environment Management.
- Project: Prioritization and Rejuvenation Planning of Selected River under the One District-One River scheme of SARRA.
- Desirable skills: Knowledge of ArcGIS, Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry is desirable.
Junior Project Fellow - River Rejuvenation Project
- Qualification: You need a First Class M.Sc. in Forestry or Environment Management.
- Project: The post supports river rejuvenation planning under the SARRA project.
- Desirable skills: Knowledge of ArcGIS and Remote Sensing will help.
Junior Project Fellow - Plantation Monitoring Project
- Qualification: You need a First Class M.Sc. in Forestry, Agroforestry or Botany.
- Project: Monitoring and evaluation of plantations carried out under State Budget Plantation by the Delhi Forest Department for 2019-20 to 2024-25.
- Desirable skills: Extensive touring ability, MS Office and computer application knowledge are desirable. Preference may be given for relevant field experience.
Project Assistant
- Qualification: You need a B.Sc. in Forestry or Botany.
- Project: The role is under the same plantation monitoring and evaluation project funded by the Delhi Forest Department.
- Desirable skills: Extensive touring ability and knowledge of MS Office and computer applications are desirable.
Age Limit
- Research Associate-II: Upper age limit is 35 years.
- Junior Project Fellow: Upper age limit is 28 years.
- Reference date: Age is counted as on 1 June 2026.
- Age relaxation: Relaxation up to 5 years is mentioned for SC/ST, women, physically handicapped and OBC candidates.
Salary
- Research Associate-II: Rs. 61,000 per month plus HRA.
- Junior Project Fellow - River Rejuvenation: Rs. 24,000 per month plus HRA.
- Junior Project Fellow - Plantation Monitoring: Rs. 24,000 per month consolidated.
- Project Assistant: Rs. 22,000 per month consolidated.
- Tenure: Project tenure is initially as mentioned in the notice, or up to project completion, or subject to funds, whichever is earlier. Extension may be allowed as per ICFRE rules.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
FRI will select candidates through walk-in interview. The notice does not mention a written exam.
- Registration: Report for registration between 9:00 AM and 10:15 AM on the relevant interview date.
- Document Submission: Submit bio-data, photo and self-attested educational and experience documents to the office of the Group Coordinator (Research).
- Walk-in Interview: Attend the interview in the Board Room of FRI Main Building, Dehradun.
- Document Verification: Bring original documents because FRI can check your certificates during the selection process.

Responsibilities
- Support river rejuvenation, plantation monitoring and forestry research project work.
- Collect field data and assist with monitoring of plantation activities.
- Use GIS, remote sensing, MS Office and computer applications for project analysis.
- Prepare project notes, field records, maps and research documentation.
- Coordinate with project investigators and field teams during surveys and reviews.
- Maintain clean records of observations, documents, certificates and project outputs.
- Follow FRI and ICFRE project rules during temporary fellowship engagement.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Ph.D. or post-graduation with experience for Research Associate-II; First Class M.Sc. for Junior Project Fellow; B.Sc. in Forestry/Botany for Project Assistant
Preferred Qualification
Knowledge of ArcGIS, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, MS Office, computer applications and relevant field experience
