Forest Research Institute (FRI), an autonomous institute under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has released notification for 91 Group-C posts across 9 different cadres at its Dehradun campus. Posts are open to Indian nationals only and selection is based on a 3-stage process — Computer Based Test (Stage-I), a qualifying Descriptive Test (Stage-II) and a Skill/Trade Test (Stage-III) for relevant posts. Freshers with class 10 pass can apply for MTS and Forest Guard.

Library Information Assistant (Level-6)

• Graduate from a recognized University with Bachelor's degree in Library Science from a recognized University.
• Age: 18 to 27 years

Technical Assistant (Field/Lab Research) (Level-5)

• Bachelor's degree in Science with Botany / Zoology / Forestry / Environment / Ecology / Biotechnology / Genetics / Microbiology / Geology / Bio-Chemistry as one subject.
• Age: 21 to 30 years

Stenographer Grade II (Level-4)

• 12th Class from recognized Board
• Stenography speed of 80 words/minute in English/Hindi
• Computer Applications certificate (typing speed 5 key depressions per word)
• Age: 18 to 27 years

Technician (Field/Lab Research) (Level-3)

• 10+2 in Science with 60% marks from a recognised Board
• Age: 18 to 30 years

Store Keeper (Level-3)

• 12th pass from a recognised Board
• Age: 18 to 27 years

Technician (Maintenance) (Level-2)

• Matriculation with ITI certificate in relevant trade or Certificate course from Govt. recognised Institute
• Age: 18 to 30 years

Lower Division Clerk (LDC) (Level-2)

• 12th class from a recognised Board
• Typing speed of 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi on computer
• Age: 18 to 27 years

Forest Guard (Level-2)

• 12th pass with Science from Government recognised Board
• Must meet physical standards (see below)
• Age: 18 to 27 years

Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) (Level-1)

• 10th standard pass from recognised Board/School
• Desirable: 3 years or more experience in relevant field
• Age: 18 to 27 years

Age Limit

• Minimum age: 18 years for most posts (21 years for Technical Assistant)
• Maximum age varies by post: 27 to 30 years
• Age is calculated as on the last date of online application (3 June 2026)
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST: 5 years, OBC: 3 years, PwD (40%+): 10 years (15 for SC/ST, 13 for OBC)
• Ex-Servicemen: Period of service plus 3 years (8 years for SC/ST disabled defence service)
• ICFRE Permanent employees: No age limit for Technicians and Technical Assistant; 5 years relaxation for other posts
• Widows/Divorced Women: Up to 35 years (40 for SC/ST)

• Library Information Assistant: Pay Level-6 (Rs. 35,400 - 1,12,400)
• Technical Assistant: Pay Level-5 (Rs. 29,200 - 92,300)
• Stenographer Grade II: Pay Level-4 (Rs. 25,500 - 81,100)
• Technician (Field/Lab Research) & Store Keeper: Pay Level-3 (Rs. 21,700 - 69,100)
• Technician (Maintenance), LDC & Forest Guard: Pay Level-2 (Rs. 19,900 - 63,200)
• Multi Tasking Staff (MTS): Pay Level-1 (Rs. 18,000 - 56,900)
• You also get DA, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and Children's Education Allowance as per ICFRE rules.

Physical Standards (Forest Guard only)

For Male Candidates

• Height: minimum 165 cm
• Chest: 79 cm (without expansion) / 84 cm (with expansion)
• Walk: 25 km in 4 hours

For Female Candidates

• Height: minimum 150 cm
• Chest: 74 cm (without expansion) / 79 cm (with expansion)
• Walk: 14 km in 4 hours

Selected Forest Guards must complete a Forestry training course from a recognized Forest Guard training institution during probation.

Application Fee

• General / OBC / EWS (male): Rs. 1,500 (Rs. 800 application fee + Rs. 700 processing fee)
• Female / SC / ST / PwD candidates: Only Rs. 700 processing fee (application fee waived)
• Fee once paid is non-refundable.

Selection Process

Selection is done in 3 stages:

1. Stage-I: Computer Based Test (CBT): 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks. Duration: 2 hours (LDC) or 3 hours (other posts). Negative marking: 1/4 mark for LDC and 1/3 mark for other posts. CBT will be held in Uttarakhand. Shortlisting: 5 times the vacancies per post for Stage-II.
2. Stage-II: Descriptive Test (Qualifying): Short Essay (300 words) and Letter/Application — one in Hindi and one in English. 50 marks in 45 minutes. Minimum qualifying: 50% marks. Held in Dehradun only in pen-and-paper mode.
3. Stage-III: Skill/Trade Test (Qualifying): Only for Technician (Maintenance) [Skill Test], LDC [Typing Test], Forest Guard [Physical Standards + 25 km walk for Men / 14 km for Women in 4 hours], and Stenographer Grade II [Stenography Test].
4. Document Verification: Final list based on CBT marks (with tie-breaker rules) for candidates qualifying Stages II and III.

Final merit is decided on Stage-I CBT marks only — Stage-II and Stage-III are qualifying in nature.

• Assist scientists and senior officers in research, lab, field and administrative tasks

• Follow ICFRE rules, safety guidelines and government instructions
• Participate in fieldwork, library cataloguing or maintenance work depending on the post
• Forest Guards: patrol forest areas, prevent illegal activities and assist forest officers
