Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun is hiring 91 Group-C employees in 9 different posts including Library Information Assistant, Technical Assistant, Stenographer, Technicians, Store Keeper, LDC, Forest Guard and Multi Tasking Staff (MTS). FRI Group-C Recruitment 2026 - 91 Posts (Advt. No. 1/FRI/GC/2026)
Forest Research Institute (FRI), an autonomous institute under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has released notification for 91 Group-C posts across 9 different cadres at its Dehradun campus. Posts are open to Indian nationals only and selection is based on a 3-stage process — Computer Based Test (Stage-I), a qualifying Descriptive Test (Stage-II) and a Skill/Trade Test (Stage-III) for relevant posts. Freshers with class 10 pass can apply for MTS and Forest Guard.

- 10+2 in Science with 60% marks from a recognised Board

- Multi Tasking Staff (MTS): Pay Level-1 (Rs. 18,000 - 56,900)

Physical Standards (Forest Guard only)
For Male Candidates
- Height: minimum 165 cm
- Chest: 79 cm (without expansion) / 84 cm (with expansion)
- Walk: 25 km in 4 hours
For Female Candidates
- Height: minimum 150 cm
- Chest: 74 cm (without expansion) / 79 cm (with expansion)
- Walk: 14 km in 4 hours
Selected Forest Guards must complete a Forestry training course from a recognized Forest Guard training institution during probation.
Application Fee
- General / OBC / EWS (male): Rs. 1,500 (Rs. 800 application fee + Rs. 700 processing fee)
- Female / SC / ST / PwD candidates: Only Rs. 700 processing fee (application fee waived)

Selection Process
Selection is done in 3 stages:
- Stage-I: Computer Based Test (CBT): 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks. Duration: 2 hours (LDC) or 3 hours (other posts). Negative marking: 1/4 mark for LDC and 1/3 mark for other posts. CBT will be held in Uttarakhand. Shortlisting: 5 times the vacancies per post for Stage-II.
- Stage-II: Descriptive Test (Qualifying): Short Essay (300 words) and Letter/Application — one in Hindi and one in English. 50 marks in 45 minutes. Minimum qualifying: 50% marks. Held in Dehradun only in pen-and-paper mode.
- Stage-III: Skill/Trade Test (Qualifying): Only for Technician (Maintenance) [Skill Test], LDC [Typing Test], Forest Guard [Physical Standards + 25 km walk for Men / 14 km for Women in 4 hours], and Stenographer Grade II [Stenography Test].
- Document Verification: Final list based on CBT marks (with tie-breaker rules) for candidates qualifying Stages II and III.
Final merit is decided on Stage-I CBT marks only — Stage-II and Stage-III are qualifying in nature.

Responsibilities
- Handle assigned duties as per the post — clerical, technical, library, stenography, store-keeping, forestry or maintenance work
- Assist scientists and senior officers in research, lab, field and administrative tasks
- Maintain proper records, files, registers and store inventories
- Operate office equipment, computers and field instruments as required
- Follow ICFRE rules, safety guidelines and government instructions
- Participate in fieldwork, library cataloguing or maintenance work depending on the post
- Forest Guards: patrol forest areas, prevent illegal activities and assist forest officers
