DHS ANM and Lab Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview
Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Andaman and Nicobar Administration is engaging Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and Laboratory Assistants for health institutions across the islands. This is a short-term contractual drive under the Andaman and Nicobar Health Department, designed to support patient care and diagnostic services while regular posts are being filled. The same notice covers both frontline nursing and laboratory work, so you should choose the role that matches your training and professional certificate.
Posts and Disciplines
- Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery: Community and institution-based nursing support, with a focus on maternal health, child health, basic clinical care and patient records.
- Laboratory Assistant: Diagnostic support work involving sample handling, routine laboratory procedures, equipment care and accurate test records.
Post-wise Duties
Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery
You will support antenatal and postnatal care, help with immunisation and health-awareness work, maintain patient and maternal-health records, and assist the medical team wherever nursing support is needed. Your posting may be at any health institution controlled by DHS, so readiness to serve across the island network is important.
Laboratory Assistant
You will receive and label samples, help conduct routine tests, keep the work area safe, and maintain clear laboratory registers. You will also support stock checks and basic equipment upkeep so that diagnostic work continues without avoidable delays.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The engagement is for six months or until the posts are filled regularly, whichever happens first. The contract does not create a claim to regular appointment.
- Termination: DHS may end the engagement earlier when required, and the service ends automatically when the stated tenure or regular recruitment condition is reached.
- Posting: Selected staff can be placed at any DHS health institution where the department needs their services.
- Professional conduct: You must maintain proper standards of duty; false information or hidden material facts can lead to removal and further action.
- Travel costs: No TA or DA is payable for attending the interview or joining the contractual post.
- Leave: Leave is governed by the Central Government instructions cited in the vacancy notice.
Application Submission Notes
Use the prescribed form from the Administration or DHS vacancy website and deliver it to the Directorate of Health Services, Sri Vijaya Puram. This is an offline application, and the notice fixes a cut-off time as well as a closing day, so make sure the form reaches the office rather than merely being posted by then.
DHS will publish the eligible-candidate list on its website before the interview period. If shortlisted, report at the DHS Conference Hall in Sri Vijaya Puram one hour before your allotted interview time and carry your original age and education records for checking.
