CSMCRI Project Associate I Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR - Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), Bhavnagar, is hiring a Project Associate-I for project FTT050610 under its EES theme. The project examines hydrodynamics and sediment management for Gujarat's solar salt industry, with a focus on climate-related risks, coastal infrastructure and surrounding communities. Its practical aim is to connect modelling with site-specific measures that help salt works withstand flooding, erosion and sediment movement. You would join a project-based research engagement linked to salt-production sites and coastal conditions.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project-linked tenure: The appointment lasts only while the project continues. It ends with the project, so you should assess it as a time-limited research engagement.
  • Combined service limit: Project appointments across CSIR-CSMCRI and other CSIR laboratories or institutes together cannot exceed six years. This limit applies across different projects, rather than separately to each engagement.
  • No automatic continuation: The appointment does not give you a right to an extension or absorption into CSIR-CSMCRI. The notice expressly separates project service from a claim to a continuing institute appointment.
  • Field travel: You will need to travel for data collection at salt works and other project field sites. The project connects modelling with information from government agencies, salt works and CSMCRI's model salt farm.
  • Provisional recruitment: The institute may change the advertised vacancies or cancel all or part of the recruitment. The Director's decisions on applications, interview arrangements and related recruitment matters are final.
  • Continuing checks: Your application can be cancelled if you are later found not to meet the stated requirements. This condition applies during the recruitment process and afterwards.
  • Interview costs: No travel or daily allowance is available for attending the interview. The notice provides for an online interview for shortlisted applicants.

Application Submission Notes

Send the prescribed application and supporting material as one PDF file to smccivil310@gmail.com. Use the application format linked with the notice and include the requested contact particulars, including your Skype details. Incomplete applications can be rejected during screening, and shortlisted applicants will receive the online interview details by email.

Grade conversion matters: If your institution uses CGPA, SGPA, OGPA or another grade system, convert your result to a percentage using that institution's formula and attach the conversion information. Check the official CSMCRI recruitment website for later addenda or corrections, since the institute says it will place updates there.

Responsibilities

  • Develop sediment models to study erosion, deposition and scouring in salt-work creeks.
  • Model tidal flow, wave-current interaction, flooding and shoreline changes.
  • Map flood inundation and sediment movement with ArcGIS, remote sensing and satellite data.
  • Use MIKE and HEC-RAS tools to support site-specific coastal modelling.
  • Prepare AutoCAD designs for protective infrastructure based on model results.
  • Collect field data from salt works, the model salt farm and relevant government agencies.
  • Support planning for resilient salt-industry infrastructure and nearby coastal communities.
