About This Job

Apply for 48 Project Staff posts in CSIR NML. ITI to PhD, post-wise. Salary: Rs 18,000-77,000. Walk-ins: 6-9 Oct 2026. Last date: 9 Oct 2026.

CSIR NML Project Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), part of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, is engaging project staff at Burmamines, Jamshedpur. The recruitment brings together technical, research and administrative appointments across the laboratory’s time-bound projects. You will be considered against the project and group identified in your application, rather than a single common assignment.

The project portfolio ranges from metallurgical testing and resource recovery to coatings, semiconductor-material recovery, outreach and research support. Several projects examine how useful materials can be recovered from industrial or end-of-life products, while others study the behaviour of metals and components. The notice also includes support for Jigyasa, the laboratory’s school-facing research outreach activity.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Project Assistant-I: Trade-based positions are attached to roller-bearing material evaluation, steel-behaviour studies, waste LCD recovery and Jigyasa outreach.
  • Project Assistant-II: These positions span boiler-tube testing, chemical and mineral projects, resource recovery, information-technology support and outreach.
  • Scientific Administrative Assistant: This appointment belongs to the ANRF-supported project on producing high-grade graphite from natural graphite.
  • Project Associate-I: Projects cover component failure, reference materials, recovery of valuable elements, railway coatings, automated ingot counting and ultrasonic assessment.
  • Project Associate-II: Assignments include coal characterisation, biomass-based solid fuels, fatigue-damage research, aluminium-alloy assessment and the CSIR skill initiative.
  • Project-JRF: Research appointments are included in the graphite project. A separate coatings-project position is advertised at either Project-JRF or Project Associate-I level; these are alternative levels for the same opening.
  • Project Scientist-I: This role is attached to the ANRF-supported graphite project, with a geology focus.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project-linked tenure: The engagement is contractual and ends with the relevant project. Its duration can be shortened or extended depending on the project and your performance and conduct.
  • No regular appointment: Project service does not give you a right to continued engagement, absorption or regularisation in CSIR or CSIR-NML.
  • Termination: Either side can end the engagement with one month’s notice or one month’s stipend in its place.
  • Cumulative service: The overall CSIR project-service limit applies across its laboratories and institutes. An appointment cannot continue beyond that permitted total.
  • Funding: An offer depends on receipt of funds for the relevant project. Continued engagement also depends on fund availability.
  • Changes to openings: The laboratory can change the number or level of positions, or cancel them, including after the selection exercise.
  • Travel: You must meet your own travel and attendance costs; the laboratory will not pay TA or DA for attending.
  • Truthful information: Incorrect information can cancel your candidature. False statements may also lead to exclusion from future CSIR-NML recruitment or engagement exercises.
