CARI Kolkata Consultant and JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Kolkata, part of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences under the Ministry of AYUSH, is engaging a Consultant and a Junior Research Fellow for two collaborative IMR projects. Both assignments support applied Ayurveda research, but their day-to-day focus is different: one centres on organising reusable knowledge about AYUSH substances, while the other supports a laboratory study of an Ayurvedic formulation in experimental animals. These are project-linked contractual roles, not regular institute appointments.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Consultant (Ayush Disciplines): This role supports the DRAVYA project, which is building a digitised retrieval resource for AYUSH substances. It suits an AYUSH graduate or a postgraduate in pharmacognosy, Ayurveda pharmacy, natural products, botany, medicinal plants, biotechnology or life sciences who already has substantial research experience.
  • Junior Research Fellow (Pharmacology): This role belongs to a pre-clinical project studying Vidangadi Lauham in the management of diabetes. The work is aimed at candidates trained in pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacy or life sciences, with laboratory-animal handling treated as a useful advantage.

Post-wise Duties

Consultant (Ayush Disciplines)

You will help shape a searchable, reusable database of AYUSH drugs and ingredients, connect older source material with recognised online databases, and prepare clear scientific documents for the project team. The role also calls for careful editing of articles and technical reports, with peer-reviewed publication experience adding value.

Junior Research Fellow (Pharmacology)

You will support the experimental pharmacology work, maintain reliable study records and assist the research team with laboratory procedures. Because the project uses experimental animals, practical animal-handling experience will help you settle into the work quickly.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: Each appointment lasts only for the relevant project period and ends automatically with that project.
  • No regular claim: The engagement does not create a right to continued or regular employment at CCRAS or CARI.
  • Age assessment: The institute checks the applicable age condition on the date fixed for the respective walk-in.
  • Government relaxation: SC, ST and OBC candidates receive age relaxation under Government of India rules.
  • Travel: The institute will not pay TA or DA for attending the written test or interview.
  • Current employment: If you already work elsewhere, you need a No Objection Certificate from your employer.
  • Recruitment control: CARI may cancel the notice or the selection process for either role without filling it.

Application Submission Notes

This is a walk-in process at CARI Kolkata, 4-CN Block, Sector V, Bidhannagar, Kolkata 700091. Reach the venue by the stated registration time with the prescribed form; late arrivals are not admitted to the written test or interview. Bring the supporting self-attested copies and recent photographs with you, while keeping the originals ready for verification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop organised research records for the assigned Ayurveda project
  • Review scientific source material and record usable findings accurately
  • Prepare clear technical notes, reports, and research documentation
  • Maintain reliable databases, laboratory records, or study logs for the assigned role
  • Coordinate with investigators and project staff on scheduled research work
  • Follow institute procedures for data quality, ethics, and laboratory safety
  • Support scientific manuscripts and project outputs appropriate to the role
