Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), an autonomous body under Bihar’s Department of Sports, is recruiting Head Coaches for the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence in Bihar. The engagement supports high-performance coaching in swimming and weightlifting through a contract linked to the Khelo India Scheme. You will work within an academy environment that brings athlete development, coaching support and programme planning together.

Posts and Disciplines

• Head Coach - Swimming: A discipline-specific coaching appointment at the State Centre of Excellence in Bihar.
• Head Coach - Weightlifting: A parallel appointment for the weightlifting programme at the same state centre.
• Shared role framework: The notice gives both disciplines the same Head Coach job description and common service conditions. Your sporting discipline determines the programme you support.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial tenure: The contract starts with a two-year term. Annual extensions can add up to three further years, subject to satisfactory performance, periodic reviews and scheme needs.
• Scheme-linked engagement: The total term cannot exceed five years and remains tied to the Khelo India Scheme. An extension is conditional, so the initial offer does not guarantee the maximum tenure.
• No permanent appointment claim: This contract does not give you a right to permanent employment with BSSA. The full employment terms will accompany the offer letter.
• Deployment: BSSA may change the deployment location and staffing requirement according to workload. The notice identifies Bihar but does not promise a fixed district.
• Leave: You receive 30 days of leave per calendar year on a proportionate basis. Unused leave expires at year-end, and absence beyond the permitted allowance is unpaid.
• Performance review: Unsatisfactory performance can lead to discontinuation with one month’s notice. BSSA also reserves a general right to end the contract with one month’s notice.
• Conduct: Doping, criminal conduct, negligence, unauthorised absence or other breaches can lead to immediate termination without compensation. Athlete safeguarding and ethical conduct form part of the role.
• Confidentiality: You must protect information obtained through the assignment. The notice restricts publications and broadcasts using that information, including contributions made under another name.
• Disputes: BSSA’s Director General-cum-CEO is the final authority for disputes within the organisation. Employment litigation falls under the jurisdiction of Bihar courts.
• Recruitment changes: BSSA can modify, withdraw or cancel the advertisement or recruitment process. Its decisions on selection and posting are final.

• Assess athletes’ strengths and development needs, and give constructive feedback.
• Prepare individual and group training programmes.
• Track performance with digital tools and keep athlete records.
• Maintain safe training practices and protect athletes from harassment.
• Coordinate training schedules, competition participation and travel with other coaches.
• Build athletes’ confidence and explain techniques in clear language.
• Plan programme activities and seek sponsorship with stakeholders.
