Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is hiring specialist doctors on contract for the Group of Tuberculosis Hospitals at Sewri, Mumbai, under its Public Health Department. The notice brings together paediatric, anaesthesia and intensive-care work within the same hospital recruitment.

Your work would be part of the hospital’s patient-care services, with duties extending to emergency coverage when needed. The posts have different clinical roles, but all appointments come under the hospital’s contract-service conditions.

Posts and Disciplines

• Specialist Medical Consultant, Paediatrics: Work with children receiving care in the paediatric wards and outpatient tuberculosis services.
• Specialist Medical Consultant, Anaesthesia: Join the relevant specialist unit within the tuberculosis hospital group, with additional coverage as patient-care needs demand.
• Intensivist: Work in the intensive respiratory care unit, with rotating day and night duties and support for patients needing intensive care.

Post-wise Duties

Paediatrician

You will examine children during ward rounds and outpatient clinics, guide junior doctors and supervise resident and paramedical staff. The paediatric role also includes helping the administration review hospital work and remaining available by mobile phone for clinical needs.

Anaesthesia Consultant

You will work under the hospital head in the assigned specialist unit. The notice’s shared consultant duties include night coverage, emergency care and service at other tuberculosis clinics within the hospital group when needed.

Intensivist

You will oversee intensive respiratory care, guide medical officers, record patient histories and review admitted patients. Your work includes intubation, non-invasive ventilation, monitoring and examining ward or outpatient cases that may need transfer into intensive care.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract duration: The advertised engagement runs from appointment up to 31 March 2027. The notice provides for an initial 179-day term and further engagement after a one-day technical break if your work is satisfactory.
• Continuation: Attendance and the quantity and quality of your work will be reviewed through performance reports. Unsatisfactory work or misconduct can lead to termination without prior notice.
• Attendance: Record your arrival and departure through the biometric system. Unauthorised absence will be treated as leave without pay.
• Clinical accountability: Follow the department’s clinical procedures and accept the medico-legal responsibilities attached to your work. Emergency service may be needed beyond your usual assigned duties.
• Leave: Weekly leave follows departmental arrangements. The notice allows proportionate casual leave totalling 7.5 days for six months and does not provide other leave categories.
• Leaving the post: Give one month’s advance notice if you resign. This contract does not create a claim to permanent municipal service or regular-service benefits.
• Appointment agreement: You will need to sign the contract agreement when appointed. Travel for the interview is at your own cost.
• Waiting list: The hospital may use a waiting list for vacancies caused by resignation, non-joining or a person leaving service; the list remains valid up to 31 March 2027.
