BITS Pilani PhD Research Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani) is selecting a PhD Research Fellow for a collaborative project with IIT Roorkee. The research focuses on physics-informed neuromorphic systems for smart sensing and predictive intelligence, bringing together device work, computing and mathematical modelling. Prof. Arnab Hazra at BITS Pilani and Prof. Sourav Kumar Sasmal at IIT Roorkee will supervise the collaboration.

This is more than a short project-assistant assignment: the selected fellow will join the full-time PhD programme in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Pilani campus. The project is planned over a multi-year research window, giving you time to move from materials and simulation work to device fabrication, validation, publications and possible patents. Your admission and continued registration will still follow BITS Pilani's PhD rules.

The technical scope crosses several specialisations, including electronics and communication, instrumentation, computer science, microelectronics, nanoelectronics, VLSI and physics. That makes the role a strong fit if your postgraduate work already connects devices, sensing, simulation or intelligent systems. A valid GATE or NET qualification is preferred where applicable, but the shortlisting decision will also reflect merit and the needs of the project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Research location: Your base will be the BITS Pilani campus in Rajasthan, within the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
• Collaborative stay: During the PhD, you must spend part of the research period at IIT Roorkee. The stay can range from six months to two years within the overall programme.
• PhD enrolment: Selection for the fellowship gives you an opportunity to enrol in the BITS Pilani PhD programme, subject to the institute's academic and registration norms.
• Shortlisting: Holding the minimum degree does not guarantee an interview. The investigators will shortlist applicants using merit and project fit.
• Interview communication: Only shortlisted applicants will receive the interview information, so make sure your biodata carries a current email address and phone number.
• Travel and stay: No TA or DA will be paid for attending the interview. If an in-person visit to Pilani is required, you must arrange your own accommodation and local travel.
• Research output: The assignment includes indexed journal papers, conference work and patent activity alongside experimental and simulation tasks.
• Project nature: This is a project-linked research fellowship, not a regular administrative or teaching appointment at BITS Pilani.
