BHU JRF Geology Recruitment 2026: Overview

Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, is hiring one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Geology, Institute of Science. The fellow joins a three-year research project funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), BHU project code P-07/1376, titled "Crustal Deformation History of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis in Arunachal Himalaya, Northeast India".

The project studies how the rocks of the Eastern Himalaya in Arunachal Pradesh were folded, faulted and pushed over time. A big plus of this opening is that the JRF is converted to SRF in the third year, so you can build a full research track within one project. If you are a Geology postgraduate interested in structural geology and Himalayan tectonics, and you do not mind field trips to remote mountain areas, this is worth a look. The Principal Investigator is Dr. R. K. Bikramaditya Singh, Assistant Professor in the department.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The post is temporary and co-terminus with the project. It ends when the project ends.
• JRF to SRF: The fellowship moves up to Senior Research Fellow in the third year of the project.
• Subject: Only an M.Sc. in Geology is accepted, and you must have cleared NET or GATE.
• Preference: When candidates are otherwise equal, SC/ST candidates get preference as per Government of India rules.
• Interview: Only shortlisted candidates are informed by email, and the interview may be online or in person. No TA/DA is paid for attending.
