BHU JRA Botany Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Botany, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi is engaging a Junior Research Assistant (JRA) for a sponsored research project under advertisement no. UPCST/JRA/B.H.U/AS/2026-2027. The project is titled "To Investigate the Role of Biochar Bag for Regulating Xenobiotic Contamination in Wastewater" and is funded by the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh (CST UP), Lucknow through sanction order No. CST/EnV./D-1002 dated 6 August 2026. Dr. Anita Singh is the Principal Investigator, and the work is on cleaning wastewater of chemical pollutants using biochar. Only Indian citizens who are residents of Uttar Pradesh can apply for this post.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: You must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh — the advertisement makes this a basic condition, not a preference.
• Purely temporary post: the position is temporary and is governed by the funding agency's rules, that is the CST UP guidelines, along with the service conditions of BHU, Varanasi.
• Tenure: the project itself runs for three years. Your appointment is made for one year at a time and is carried forward each year based on how you perform.
• Shortlisting: having the asked-for degree does not mean you get an interview call. The department shortlists on merit and on what the project needs at that point.
• Relaxation: the institute can relax the qualification and experience at any time for a candidate of exceptional credentials, and can even consider such a candidate who has not applied.
• Interview in person: shortlisted candidates get an email about the schedule and have to be present physically with their original certificates.
• No TA/DA: the university pays nothing towards your travel or stay for the interview.
