The Office of the District Judge, Bargarh has released Advertisement No. 01 of 2026, dated 15 July 2026, for 12 posts of Junior Clerk-cum-Copyist and Stenographer Grade-III in the Bargarh Judgeship, Odisha. This recruitment follows the Odisha District and Civil Courts' Judicial Staff Services (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2008 and its amendments, and is subject to the outcome of a related writ petition before the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa. No examination fee is charged, and selection happens through a merit list, followed by a written test, skill test and interview. Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must be a citizen of India who has passed at least the +3 examination (or an equivalent qualification) from a recognized university.
  • Computer Diploma: You need a Diploma in Computer Application (DCA) from a recognized institute.
  • Language: You must be able to speak, read and write Odia, and pass a test in Odia equivalent to the M.E. standard.
  • Character & Health: You should be of good character, sound health and free from organic defects or bodily infirmity.
  • Marital Status: You should not have more than one spouse living, if married.

Additional Requirement for Stenographer Grade-III:

  • You must have a minimum speed of 80 words per minute in Shorthand and 40 words per minute in Typewriting.
  • The typewriting test will be conducted through a computer system in English only.

PwD Reservation — Suitable Categories:

The notification also specifies which categories of Persons with Disability can apply, based on the type of work involved:

  • OL (One Leg affected): Suitable for jobs done by sitting, hearing/speaking, seeing, manipulating with fingers, or reading and writing.
  • OA (One Arm affected): Includes impaired reach, weakness of grip, or ataxia.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 18 and 42 years old as on 17 August 2026.
  • Age Relaxation: The upper age limit will be relaxed for SC/ST/SEBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen candidates as per applicable Government of Odisha rules.

Salary

  • Junior Clerk-cum-Copyist: Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month (Level-4 of the ORSP Pay Matrix, 2017).
  • Stenographer Grade-III: Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 per month (Level-7 of the ORSP Pay Matrix, 2017).
  • You will also get usual allowances as admissible from time to time.

Selection Process

Selection happens in these stages:

  1. Merit Shortlisting: A career merit list is prepared for General and Reserved categories, based on your percentage of marks in HSC, +2 and +3 (or equivalent) examinations, in descending order. Candidates up to 20 times the actual vacancy in each category are shortlisted for the written exam.
  2. Written Exam: For Junior Clerk-cum-Copyist — English, Arithmetic and General Knowledge (100 marks each). For Stenographer Grade-III — English only (100 marks, qualifying in nature).
  3. Shorthand & Typewriting Test (Stenographer Grade-III only): 50 marks — dictation of a 400-word passage in 5 minutes, then typed on a computer in 10 minutes.
  4. Computer Science Test (Practical): 100 marks, 1 hour — tests paragraph formatting, table insertion, printing, file transfer, web browsing, email and accounting software use.
  5. Viva-Voce: 45 marks for Junior Clerk-cum-Copyist, 35 marks for Stenographer Grade-III — assesses your alertness, general outlook and potential qualities.

The decision of the District Judge, Bargarh on your exam result is final. Written exam dates will be announced individually by post, and also on the District Court website.
