AVNL Trade Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview
Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is engaging Trade Apprentices for the Machine Tool Prototype Factory at Ambarnath, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Defence. The batch brings together school-pass candidates who need full trade training and ITI-pass candidates who already hold a recognised trade certificate. This is apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act and its rules, not appointment to a permanent factory post.
The programme is designed around production trades used in a machine-tool factory. Non-ITI applicants enter a common merit pool and indicate their trade choices, while Ex-ITI applicants compete only in the designated trade that matches their certificate. The factory can make allotments according to merit, preference and the training places available in each trade.
Posts and Disciplines
- Non-ITI Fitter: foundation training in fitting, bench work, measurement and assembly practices.
- Non-ITI Turner: training around lathe operations, work holding, measurement and safe machining.
- Non-ITI Machinist: machine-shop training covering tools, dimensions, job setup and inspection.
- Non-ITI MMTM: machine-tool maintenance exposure suited to the factory's equipment environment.
- Ex-ITI Fitter, Turner and Machinist: trade-specific apprenticeship that builds on a recognised ITI qualification.
- Ex-ITI Electrician and Electronics: practical work with electrical or electronic systems, checks and safe maintenance.
- Ex-ITI Welder G&E: supervised gas and electric welding practice with attention to joint quality and safety.
Post-wise Duties
Non-ITI Apprentices
You will learn your allotted trade through structured workshop instruction and supervised practice. The work will involve following demonstrations, using tools correctly, recording training progress and building safe habits before taking on more complex shop-floor tasks.
Ex-ITI Apprentices
You will apply your existing trade knowledge in a production setting and strengthen it through practical factory assignments. Your work will stay aligned with the designated trade named in your ITI certificate and the training plan followed by MTPF.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Training status: Apprentices are trainees under the applicable Act and rules; completion does not by itself guarantee regular employment.
- Trade allotment: Non-ITI trades are allotted by merit and choice, while Ex-ITI applicants must apply against one matching designated trade.
- Provisional places: The notified training places may change, and unfilled reserved places may be handled under the applicable apprenticeship reservation rules.
- Contract of apprenticeship: Selected candidates must execute the prescribed apprenticeship contract; a parent or guardian acts where the apprentice is a minor.
- Fitness: Engagement depends on meeting the physical and medical standards under the Apprentices Act and Apprenticeship Rules.
- Verification: Selection remains provisional until original credentials, police verification and medical fitness are cleared.
- Travel: Candidates called for verification or medical examination must arrange their own travel because no transport allowance is payable.
Application Submission Notes

Choose the correct Non-ITI or Ex-ITI category and trade on the form.
