AIIMS Kalyani Scientist B Lab Tech Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences Kalyani (AIIMS Kalyani) is hiring a Scientist B (Medical) and Laboratory Technician for its Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology. The laboratory works on virology, infectious-disease testing and molecular diagnostics under the DHR VRDL scheme. This is a small, specialised project team, so the notice places weight on relevant diagnostic-laboratory exposure as well as the essential academic qualification.

The appointments are purely temporary and contractual and are based at the AIIMS Kalyani campus in Nadia, West Bengal. If you want direct experience in a public-health laboratory, the roles offer two different routes: medical oversight and research input for the Scientist post, or hands-on sample and testing support for the technician post.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Scientist B (Medical): a medical-science role for an MBBS graduate, with preference for advanced training or experience in virology, infectious diseases, molecular diagnostics, disease surveillance or biomedical research.
  • Laboratory Technician: a technical laboratory role for candidates trained through DMLT, MLT, Medical Laboratory Technology or Life Sciences, with relevant virology or molecular-diagnostic experience preferred.

Post-wise Duties

Scientist B (Medical)

You will provide medical and scientific support for VRDL work, help interpret diagnostic findings and contribute to disease-surveillance or biomedical-research activities. Experience with laboratory quality systems, including NABL accreditation, can be useful when supporting reliable processes and records.

You may also guide virology and molecular-diagnostic workflows, review technical outputs and help the project team connect laboratory findings with clinical or public-health questions. The notice gives additional value to relevant postgraduate training, doctoral work and research completed after the essential qualification.

Laboratory Technician

You will support sample processing, serology, PCR or RT-PCR work and other routine molecular-diagnostic activities. Careful labelling, contamination control, equipment checks and accurate digital records will be important in a laboratory handling infectious-disease samples.

You will work with the scientific team to keep clinical and research laboratory operations moving safely and consistently. Computer skills and earlier experience in a virology or microbiology laboratory can help you adapt quickly to the reporting and documentation needs of the project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Initial tenure: the contract begins for six months and may be extended based on your performance, project need and continued funding.
  • Project closure: the appointment ends automatically when the approved tenure finishes or project funding is withdrawn.
  • Notice period: either side may end the engagement with 30 days' notice or salary in place of notice.
  • Leave: leave follows the DHR VRDL Scheme policy rather than the rules for a permanent institute post.
  • Accommodation: AIIMS Kalyani will not provide hostel or residential accommodation.
  • Interview travel: no TA or DA is paid for attending the offline assessment.
  • Other conditions: institute discipline applies, canvassing leads to disqualification, and disputes fall under Kolkata jurisdiction.
  • Vaccination declaration: the application includes an undertaking to follow the laboratory's vaccination requirements, subject to a clinically supported exemption validated by the AIIMS Kalyani Medical Board.

Application Submission Notes

Complete the application form attached to the official notice and email it to projectaiimsk@gmail.com. Your qualification and experience records should be merged into one PDF in the order requested by the form. The shortlist, assessment schedule and venue will appear on the AIIMS Kalyani website, while selected candidates will also receive an email; the institute does not promise individual messages to every applicant.

Responsibilities

  • Process clinical or research samples using approved laboratory procedures
  • Perform or support serology, PCR, RT-PCR and molecular diagnostic work
  • Review laboratory findings and support accurate scientific interpretation
  • Keep complete sample, test, equipment and digital records
  • Follow biosafety, contamination-control and institute discipline requirements
