TFRI JPF and Project Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICFRE-Tropical Forest Research Institute (TFRI), Jabalpur, a research institute of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), is filling Junior Project Fellow (JPF) and Project Assistant positions under two separate funded research projects. Both are purely temporary, project-linked engagements — your job lasts only as long as the project it belongs to.

The JPF joins a multi-year agroforestry study spread across Madhya Pradesh, while the Project Assistant works on a short national survey of medicinal plants. If you hold a forestry, agriculture, science or social-science degree and want hands-on research experience at a national forestry institute, this is a good place to start.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Project Fellow (JPF) — Food Forest project: you work on "Development of Food Forest for food and livelihood security of farmers in 11 selected agro-climatic zones of Madhya Pradesh" (ID No. 305/MPSFD), which runs from 2025 to 2029 under the Principal Investigator Dr. Nanita Berry, Scientist-F. The post suits postgraduates in Agroforestry, Forestry, Botany, Chemistry, Zoology or Agriculture; computer skills and agroforestry experience give you an edge.
• Project Assistant — Medicinal Plants survey: you join the six-month study "Detailed Study cum Survey to Assess the Demand & Supply of Medicinal Plants and their Raw Material at National Level including Global Perspective", led by Dr. Hariom Saxena, Scientist-E, with the Silviculture and Forest Management Division. Graduates from forestry, agriculture, life sciences or social sciences (sociology, economics, social work) fit here; household survey work, medicinal-plant taxonomy and MS Office skills are preferred.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of job: Purely temporary and co-terminus with the project. When the project ends, so does your engagement.
• Funding condition: TFRI says appointment will be made subject to receipt of budget or availability of fund, so the final offer depends on the project money coming through.
• Fixed pay: Both posts carry a fixed consolidated amount without HRA — there is no house rent allowance on top.
• Project length: The JPF project is planned until 2029, while the Project Assistant survey is a six-month assignment.
