Tezpur University is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament, located at Napaam in Tezpur, Assam. The University has released Advertisement No. 20/2026 inviting applications for 2 Assistant Professor (Contractual) posts in the Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a specialization in American Literature, Indian Literature, or Indian Writing in English. The appointment is purely contractual for 11 months or until the regular vacancy is filled, whichever is earlier, with a provision for further extension based on requirement and satisfactory performance. Who Can Apply?

• Qualification (Option A): You need a Master's degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) in a relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university, AND you must have cleared NET (UGC/CSIR) or a similar test like SLET/SET, or hold a Ph.D. awarded as per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016.
• Candidates who registered for their Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 are exempted from the NET/SLET/SET requirement, subject to conditions such as regular-mode award, external thesis evaluation, an open viva voce, and at least two published/presented research papers.
• Qualification (Option B): A Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 globally (QS, THE, or ARWU rankings) also makes you eligible.
• Specialization: American Literature, Indian Literature, or Indian Writing in English.
• Desirable: Candidates with a Ph.D. in the relevant field will be preferred.
• Note: If regulation of UGC/AICTE/NCTE applies to the minimum requirement of educational qualification or screening, the relevant regulation will be followed.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a fixed salary of Rs. 80,000 per month.
• No other allowances will be admissible for this contractual position.
• Since this is a fixed emolument post rather than a regular pay-scale appointment, you will not get annual increments during your contractual tenure.

Selection Process

Tezpur University will select candidates through the following process:

1. Screening: If a large number of applications are received, candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on the Academic Score defined in UGC Regulations 2018 (Annexure-II) — covering your graduation, post-graduation, M.Phil./Ph.D., NET/JRF, publications, and teaching experience.
2. Interview: Your final selection will be based only on your performance in the personal interview before the Selection Committee, which will be notified in due course.

Academic Score Breakdown (Used Only for Shortlisting)

• Graduation: 15 marks (80% & above), 13 marks (60-80%), 10 marks (55-60%), 5 marks (45-55%)
• Post-Graduation: 25 marks (80% & above), 23 marks (60-80%), 20 marks (55%, or 50% for SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer/PwD, to less than 60%)
• M.Phil.: 7 marks (60% & above), 5 marks (55-60%)
• Ph.D.: 30 marks
• NET with JRF: 7 marks, NET: 5 marks, SLET/SET: 3 marks
• Research Publications: 2 marks for each publication in a peer-reviewed/UGC-listed journal, up to 10 marks maximum
• Teaching/Post-Doctoral Experience: 2 marks per year, up to 10 marks maximum
• Awards: 3 marks each for International/National level awards, 2 marks each for State-level awards
