Manipur High Court MJS Grade-III Recruitment 2026: Overview

The High Court of Manipur at Imphal is recruiting directly to the Manipur Judicial Service Grade-III, the entry rung of the state judiciary from which civil judges begin their career. Service conditions follow the Manipur Judicial Service Rules, 2005, as amended from time to time. The biggest change in this cycle is that the three-year practice rule no longer applies — after the Supreme Court's judgment in W.P. (C) No. 1110/2025, the Registry has dispensed with the Certificate of Practice, so a fresh law graduate can now compete on the same footing as a practising advocate. The Registry has also recorded that the number of posts is likely to increase.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Governing rules: Your service conditions will be governed by the Manipur Judicial Service Rules, 2005, as amended from time to time.
• Language: You must know the State Official Language, and your Manipuri will be tested during the viva-voce.
• Practice requirement: All law graduates can apply — the earlier condition of three years at the Bar, and the Certificate of Practice that went with it, stand dispensed with.
• Examination centres: The Registry has added Guwahati as a centre alongside Imphal. Candidates who have already applied, or are yet to apply, and who want Guwahati will get a separate link on the official website to exercise that option after online registration closes; a separate notification will follow.
• Court-linked timeline: The closing of online registration remains subject to the orders passed from time to time in W.P. (C) No. 1110/2025, pending before the Supreme Court of India, so keep watching the Registry's website for further changes.
• Posts may grow: The advertisement itself notes that the number of posts is likely to increase.
• Government servants: If you are already in government service, you need a No Objection Certificate issued before the closing of online submission.
• Interview day: You have to carry originals along with self-attested photocopies to the viva-voce. Banned items such as mobile phones and pagers are not allowed at the examination venue and no safe-keeping is arranged for them.

Application Submission Notes

The whole process runs online on the High Court of Manipur's recruitment portal, which you reach through the "Apply here for the post of MJS Grade-III" link on www.hcmimphal.nic.in. Register as a new user with a personal, valid email ID — your registration number is mailed to that address, and every later login needs it along with the password you create.

Once you log in, fill the form and upload your photograph, signature, left thumb impression and the supporting papers. Examination fees can be paid only online through State Bank Collect; no other mode of payment is accepted, and an application without payment is not taken up. Do not leave it to the closing day — heavy traffic on the portal is exactly what the Registry warns about.

Corrigenda and Notices

• Notification dated 14 July 2026: online registration was kept open indefinitely beyond the originally notified closing time, in view of the orders in W.P. (C) No. 1110/2025, and Guwahati was added as an additional examination centre along with Imphal.
• Notification dated 11 September 2026: following the Supreme Court judgment of 21 August 2026, the Certificate of Practice requirement was dispensed with and all law graduates were made eligible regardless of the three-year practice condition. The same notification fixed the revised closing time for submitting application forms, and applications received after it will not be entertained.
