Maharashtra Tribal Dept Administrative Member Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra (Mantralaya, Mumbai) is looking for retired senior officers to serve as the Administrative Member of its newly created appellate authorities. These authorities come from Section 6B of the Maharashtra Caste Certificate Act, 2000, as amended in 2026, and they hear appeals from anyone whose Scheduled Tribe claim has been declared invalid by a caste scrutiny committee. A person hit by such an order can now appeal within 90 days, and these authorities will decide those appeals.

This is a contract engagement for retired officers only — not a regular government post. The department wants people who understand tribal culture, tribal customs, anthropology and ethnology, because each appeal turns on whether a person's tribe claim holds up. If you retired as a Joint Secretary in a Mantralaya department, or from an equal or higher cadre in another department, this notice is meant for you.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract term: The first term runs for one year from the date of the appointment order and can be extended up to three years.
• Governing rules: Pay, allowances and all other terms follow the General Administration Department resolution No. CBE-1525/Pra.Kra.37/Aastha(Ka 13) dated 10 June 2025 on contract engagement of retired officers.
• Reporting: During the contract you will work under the control of the Commissioner, Tribal Research and Training Institute (TRTI), Pune.
• Deadlines on work: You must finish the appeals assigned to you within the time fixed by the department.
• Resignation: Because of the nature of appellate work, you must give two months' notice before leaving.
• Panel: Shortlisted officers will be placed on a panel after the interview, and the department keeps full discretion to choose from that panel.
• Ineligible applications: Forms from officers without the required cadre and experience will not be considered or answered.
• Late forms: Applications that arrive after the closing date will not be processed, and no letters about them will be entertained.
