Kalakshetra Foundation, an Institution of National Importance and an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is filling Semi-Skilled Worker posts at its Craft Education and Research Centre (CERC) in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. This is a regular Group C direct recruitment, not a contract job, with posts open to both unreserved and SC candidates.

The centre works with traditional textile crafts, so this job suits you if you already work with hand block printing and vegetable dyes. You should also know processes such as boiling, dyeing and tailoring. Skills in tailoring and drawing are a plus but not required.

The selection is practical first: you show your craft in a hands-on test of block printing, hand painting, drawing and stitching, and only those who clear it move to the written paper. The written paper covers block printing techniques, natural colours and dyeing, Kalamkari hand painting and the history of the Kalakshetra craft centre, so reading up on the centre's own history is worth your time.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Separate merit lists: Kalakshetra prepares separate merit lists for UR and SC candidates, and appointments follow those lists.
• Lower pass mark for SC: SC candidates need lower qualifying marks in both the practical and the written test.
• Date of birth: Only the date of birth shown in your Class 10 certificate is accepted, and no later change request is entertained.
• Reserved post: If you apply for the SC post, attach a community certificate from the competent authority; without it your claim is not accepted.
• Departmental candidates: No upper age relaxation is available for departmental candidates.
• Vacancies can change: The number of posts may go up or down depending on vacancies at the time of final selection.
• Travel: General candidates get no travel allowance and must arrange their own stay in Chennai if the tests run beyond a day. SC candidates can claim a second-class railway fare from their home town to Chennai and back.
• Tie-breaker: If two candidates have the same combined score, the older candidate ranks higher, then alphabetical order decides.
• Jurisdiction: Any dispute falls under the courts and tribunals in Chennai.
