ITD Stenographer Grade I Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Income Tax Department (ITD), Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is forming a panel for Stenographer Grade I appointments on deputation. The Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Chennai is handling this exercise for offices across the region. Your application must come through your parent office, which has to check your service details before forwarding it.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Deputation tenure: The usual limit is three years. This includes any immediately preceding deputation in another ex-cadre post, whether you served in the same organisation or elsewhere.
- Service rules: The engagement follows the Department of Personnel and Training memorandum No. 6/8/2009-Estt. (Pay II), including later amendments. These rules govern the terms attached to the deputation.
- Separate appointment routes: The notice keeps promotion and deputation separate. Officers in the direct promotion line cannot use this deputation route, and deputationists cannot claim consideration for promotion through it.
- Withdrawal: Once you volunteer for this post, you cannot later withdraw your candidature. Check this condition before asking your parent office to forward your application.
- Departmental discretion: The department may reject any application, or all applications, without giving reasons.

Send your application through the proper channel to the Commissioner of Income Tax (Admn & TPS), Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Ponni Block, 121, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai 600034. Your Head of Office must check the details against your service book and certify them before forwarding the prescribed proforma.
The cadre clearance must confirm that your department will release you to join if selected. This release commitment is part of the forwarding arrangement, so your parent office needs to address it when sending the application.

Serving Central Government stenographers holding an analogous post regularly in their parent cadre or department, or with ten years of regular service in Pay Level 4 or equivalent.
