IITR Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) has a Post-Doctoral Fellowship opening in its Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. You will work under the mentorship of Prof. D K Dwivedi on a project titled "Development of a Functionally Graded Weld Joints Between Ferritic/Martensitic P91 to Austenitic SS 304 Steel through TIG Welding for High Temperature Applications". In simple words, the work is about joining two very different steels so the joint holds up at high temperatures.

This is a two-year, purely temporary fellowship, not a faculty post. It suits a recent PhD in mechanical, manufacturing or metallurgical engineering with a metal-processing and joining background who wants to build a stronger publication record in dissimilar metal welding, material characterisation or finite element simulation of manufacturing processes.

The department dates back to 1946 and runs an M.Tech programme in Welding Engineering, along with modern laboratory and workshop facilities, so you will be joining a group with long experience in joining research.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Duration: Two years. Either you or the institute can end the fellowship with one month's notice.
• Student status: Post-doctoral fellows are registered as students, so you can use the library, the computer centre and the available hospital facilities.
• Leave: You earn 2.5 days of leave per completed calendar month. Unused leave does not carry forward beyond the calendar year.
• Shortlisting: Applications are screened first, and only the screened candidates are called for the interview.
• Nature of post: PDF positions are purely temporary.
