IIT Roorkee JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a research project at its Saharanpur Campus. The Department of Polymer and Process Engineering is studying decentralized rainwater harvesting and greywater treatment using electrocoagulation and ceramic-membrane systems in the Indian Himalayan region. Sponsored by the National Mission on Himalayan Studies, the project connects laboratory material development with water-treatment problems outside the lab. You would work under Prof. Abhijit Maiti and help move the treatment idea from formulation and testing towards a practical field application.

This research assignment is especially hands-on. The group will develop concrete and ceramic-membrane formulations, assemble an experimental setup, attach membranes to concrete structures and study how water moves through the combined material. You may also examine the interaction between membrane and concrete surfaces and support a field trial at an industrial site if the project needs one. The work can lead to reports, publications and a patent application, so careful experiment records and clear technical writing matter alongside laboratory ability.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The position is available for 2.5 years or until the project ends, whichever controls the appointment.
• Career stage: After successful completion of two years as JRF, the fellow can move to the SRF stage for the remaining six months under the terms stated in the notice.
• Research location: The post is based at IIT Roorkee's Saharanpur Campus, with an industrial-site field test possible if the study requires it.
• Higher-study route: The fellow will be encouraged to join the institute's PhD programme through the project; this does not replace the institute's applicable admission requirements.
• Equal-merit preference: SC and ST candidates receive preference when qualifications and experience are equal.
• Interview format: IIT Roorkee plans both an in-person interview at Saharanpur Campus and an online Webex option. The institute will share the online link with candidates before the interview.
• Original records: You must show original degree and experience certificates during verification, including when attending online.
