IIT Mandi JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a chemistry project in its School of Chemical Sciences at Kamand, Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Abhishek Dewanji leads the project, which is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). The research explores hydrocarbon synthesis by activating carbon-carbon multiple bonds with phosphinium radical cations. You would join a temporary, project-based research appointment, with continuation linked to performance and the project’s remaining term.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial appointment: Your first appointment will be for 6 months. The notice allows later renewals for a few months, a year, or up to the remaining project duration, depending on satisfactory performance.
• Project boundary: The project has a stated duration of 36 months and ends on 12 June 2028. The project’s total duration does not mean that the initial appointment runs for that whole period.
• Renewal: Continued service depends on the institute’s assessment of your performance. Treat renewal as a condition to be met during the appointment, rather than a guaranteed extension of the initial term.
• Shortlisting discretion: IIT Mandi may set higher shortlisting standards than the advertised minimum. Meeting the stated academic conditions alone does not guarantee that you will be called.

• Marks relaxation: The notice allows relaxation of marks for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD applicants under Government of India norms. It does not specify a percentage reduction; check any question about your case with the project investigator.
• Retired government employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the institute will determine pay under the government rules in force for that situation.
