IIT Madras Principal Project Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), through its Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), is hiring a Principal Project Officer for the Department of Electrical Engineering. The post is coordinated by Prof. Shanti Bhattacharya and centres on a shared nanofabrication cleanroom facility used by faculty, MS/PhD students and outside users. This is a senior, contract-based project role for someone who can run the facility day to day: equipment, people, safety, paperwork and project reporting. If you have spent years in a semiconductor cleanroom and are comfortable dealing with vendors and funding-agency reviews, this role is built for you. You will work at IIT Madras, Chennai.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract only: The post is purely contractual. Finishing the contract gives you no right to an extension, regularisation or a permanent job at IIT Madras.
• Tenure: You are engaged for one year at first, and the term can be extended based on your performance.
• What gives you an edge: 3-5 years of focused work in a semiconductor nanofabrication cleanroom, and experience running a shared research or fabrication facility, including vendor coordination and funded-project reporting.
• Relevant experience only: Only experience gained after your minimum qualifying degree counts. IIT Madras may relax qualification or experience for exceptionally outstanding candidates.
• Citizenship: You must be an Indian citizen. Migrants from Pakistan settling permanently in India and subjects of Nepal can apply but need a Government of India eligibility certificate.
• Current IIT Madras project staff: Apply through proper channel or bring a No-Objection Certificate; without an NOC you will not be allowed into the test or interview.
• Eligibility cut-off: Your eligibility is judged as on the closing date of the online application.

• Coordinate daily facility operations, equipment bookings, user access and downtime notices
