IIT ISM Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad (IIT ISM) is offering a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in its Department of Electronics Engineering under Phase II of the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT. Your proposal should address Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), Information Technology or IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES), or a related discipline.
The fellowship connects your research with a regular faculty mentor at the institute. The notice describes this as working with the mentor, with the faculty member helping you carry out your research.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Duration: The fellowship lasts for a maximum of one year. It is a full-time, temporary appointment, cannot be transferred and can be held only in India.
- Other fellowships: You cannot receive another fellowship during this award. Keep this restriction in mind when considering any overlapping research support.
- Departmental contribution: Alongside your own research, you will contribute to departmental teaching and research work. The scheme also links fellows to its wider research activities.
- Research spending: The contingency grant can cover minor equipment, consumables and research-related items. It cannot be used to hire research staff.
- Performance review: You must present your progress to a Performance Appraisal Committee every six months. The review covers research work, papers at different publication stages, patents and external funding obtained.
- Scheme acknowledgement: Publications, achievements and recognitions arising from the fellowship must acknowledge the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme. Use the acknowledgement template printed in the notice, including the PhD Cell, Digital India Corporation and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- Long leave: Inform the PhD Cell at least one month before any long-term leave, such as study leave or a sabbatical.
- Early departure: Leaving before the fellowship ends needs prior committee approval and one month of notice. The institution must also inform the PhD Cell about discontinuation.
- Termination: The institute can end the fellowship for unsatisfactory performance or conduct after giving you one month of notice.

- Submit monthly progress reports and report significant achievements
- Acknowledge the scheme in publications and other research outcomes
पात्रता मानदंड
न्यूनतम योग्यता
PhD from a recognized university, with first class at all preceding levels and a good academic record. PhD must have been completed within five years of the application closing date and must not be from the host institution, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
