Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) is building a small research team for the High-value Concrete Visor by EAF slag Recycling (CoVER) project, sponsored by the Steel Research and Technology Mission of India. The project explores how steel-industry slag can become a useful raw material for strategic construction instead of remaining a difficult waste stream. The work combines materials characterisation, concrete technology and process development, so it offers direct exposure to an industry-linked sustainability problem.

The study plans to account for the changing chemical and mineral composition of slag rather than relying on a single fixed recipe. Its framework brings together rapid characterisation, machine learning for process optimisation, decarbonising preconditioning and multi-objective utilisation. If your background is in engineering, materials or chemistry, you would be contributing to research intended to move beyond a laboratory idea toward practical industrial use.

Posts and Disciplines

• Research Associate: an advanced research role for candidates from civil, mechanical, metallurgical, materials or chemical engineering, or chemistry. Knowledge of slag recycling, concrete technology or steel-industry practice is especially useful.
• Technical Assistant: a hands-on support role for a science graduate or engineering and technology diploma holder, ideally with exposure to a centrally funded technical institution, research laboratory or industry.

Post-wise Duties

Research Associate

You will help design and run the slag-characterisation and utilisation research, analyse how feedstock variation affects performance and contribute to the framework that makes the proposed construction material more industry-ready. The role may also involve research writing and coordination across the project's engineering and chemistry strands.

Technical Assistant

You will support laboratory preparation, testing and record keeping, help maintain samples and equipment, and organise the experimental data needed by the research team. Your work will keep day-to-day trials consistent and traceable.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: the first appointment is for one year and may continue, based on performance, only up to the project's duration.
• Project-linked role: these posts are tied to the SRTMI-funded CoVER study and do not amount to regular IIT Indore appointments.
• Research pathway: a Research Associate selected with only a master's degree may be considered for IIT Indore's regular full-time PhD programme under institute rules.
• Shortlisting: only shortlisted applicants receive an interview email, so make sure your CV clearly connects your work to the project.
• Interview travel: IIT Indore will not pay TA or DA for attending the in-person interview.
• Complete record: incomplete applications are rejected, and the institute expects a valid email address for further communication.
