IIT Indore JRF Metallurgy Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a research project in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. The project, "Unraveling Thermomigration Effects in High-Entropy Solder Alloys", is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under its Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant (PMECRG) scheme and is led by Dr. Vivek Verma.
The work studies how heat makes atoms move inside new high-entropy solder alloys, using computational thermodynamics, diffusion modelling and lab characterisation. The aim is to design solders that stay stable at high temperatures in next-generation electronics. If you want to go on to a PhD, this post is a strong entry point — the notice says candidates keen on a PhD at IIT Indore will get strong preference.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project. It starts for one year and can be extended based on your performance and the project's life.
- GATE condition: M.Tech, M.E. or M.S. holders must have qualified GATE at least once; B.Tech, B.E. and M.Sc holders need a valid GATE score (or an equivalent fellowship for M.Sc).
- Accommodation: An institute hostel room may be given if available; otherwise you get HRA instead.
- PhD preference: Candidates with clear research motivation and a long-term interest in doctoral study at IIT Indore will be prioritised.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call; the shortlist depends on merit and project needs.
- Place of work: IIT Indore campus, Simrol, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

- Carry out computational thermodynamics studies of high-entropy solder alloys
- Build diffusion models to study thermomigration behaviour in these alloys
- Characterise alloy samples experimentally in the lab

- Support the predictive design of thermally stable alloys for next-generation electronics

M.Tech/M.E./M.S. or equivalent in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (GATE qualified once); OR B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent in these branches or Engineering Physics with a valid GATE score; OR M.Sc. in Materials Science, Physics or Nanoscience and Technology with a valid GATE score or equivalent fellowship.
