IIT BHU JRF NMCG Project Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi — IIT (BHU) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology. The post sits in a project funded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) titled "Characterization of Emerging pollutants & Fingerprint analysis", led by Principal Investigator Dr. Shreyans Kumar Jain (project no. R&D/TSA/4066/NMCG/Pharma/24-25/05/632).

This is a re-advertisement. The JRF seat was first sanctioned for three years, and the earlier fellow resigned after two, so roughly one year of tenure is left. It suits a fresh M.Pharm, M.S. (Pharm) or M.Tech (Pharm) graduate who has cleared a national test and wants hands-on research on river-water quality.

The work is part of the Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) effort, which studies micro-pollutants and microbes in the Ganga Basin and the smaller rivers that feed it. You will work alongside other JRFs and a Project Assistant, using techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS and spectroscopy, plus microbial work like DNA isolation and sequencing.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Temporary, project-linked post: The position is purely temporary and ends with the project. IIT (BHU) decides the length of appointment and may extend it for the full project period based on your performance.
• Joining: If selected, you are expected to join within one month.
• Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
• Shortlisting: The selection committee may call only candidates with qualifications or experience above the minimum, and it can leave the post unfilled if nobody suitable applies.
• Preference: All else being equal, SC/ST candidates are preferred as per Government of India rules.
• Two different deadlines in the notice: The email instructions name a later date than the "Last date of application" line. Go by the earlier date so your application is not missed.
• Heading typo: The detailed annexure is headed "Project Assistant", but the post table, pay and duties are all for the JRF role.
