ICMR-National Institute for Research in Digital Health (ICMR-NIRDH), New Delhi is hiring 1 Consultant (Scientific-Medical) on contract basis. ICMR-NIRDH (Ansari Nagar, Near ICMR Headquarters, New Delhi-110029) has released Vacancy Notification No. 19/12/2025/Estt./237444 dated 05.05.2026 for engagement of One Consultant (Scientific-Medical) on contract basis. The role focuses on digital pathology, whole-slide imaging (WSI), AI-based diagnostic tool validation and collaboration with IIT and tech partners. Retired Government employees in regular Pay Level-10 and above with at least 7 years experience are also eligible. Position is full-time at ICMR-NIRDH, New Delhi but the engaged person can be posted anywhere in India.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification & Experience:

• You must have a minimum MBBS or BDS or equivalent degree in relevant subjects from a recognized institution.
• At least 7 years post-qualification experience with proven competency and success in your area of specialization.
• PhD will be considered as 4 years experience (irrespective of duration taken).
• MD / MS / MDS or equivalent will be considered as 3 years experience.
• MPH will NOT be counted as experience.
• Experience must have been gained after acquiring the minimum essential qualification.
• OR (alternative path): Retired Government employees with requisite qualification who were in regular Pay Level-10 and above and have at least 7 years experience in the required specialization.

Desirable Experience:

• Domain expertise: Experience in Oncopathology and Hematopathology preferred; ≥2 years of pathology reporting post-qualification
• Publications: Peer-reviewed paper publications (first/corresponding author preferred)
• WSI & tools: Hands-on with WSI platforms (Leica/Aperio, Hamamatsu, 3DHistech) and annotation software (QuPath, ASAP, HALO, ImageJ)
• AI/validation literacy: Familiarity with dataset curation, inter-observer agreement, diagnostic-accuracy metrics (Se/Sp/AUC, F1)
• Writing & grants: Ability to draft systematic reviews, manuscripts, study protocols and competitive grants
• Process & compliance: Strong documentation, SOP writing, QC and adherence to ethics, consent, data security and IP/MTA norms

Other Conditions:

• Persons in regular time scale service under any Government Department or Organization are NOT eligible.

Salary

• Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 1,25,000 per month
• For retired Govt. servants: Remuneration shall be fixed in accordance with Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure OM No. 3-25/2020-EINA dated 09 December 2020 as amended from time to time
• No Provident Fund, Pension Scheme, Leave Travel Concession, Medical Claim or Staff Quarters benefits — these positions are not equivalent to regular ICMR posts

Selection Process

The selection process is:

1. Document Scrutiny: Mere fulfilling the essential qualification does not guarantee selection. Only shortlisted candidates will be called.
2. Written Test (if required): ICMR-NIRDH may conduct a written test if required by the institute.
3. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview.
4. Document Verification: Original certificates and experience proofs will be verified.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the written test, interview or personal discussion. Candidates have to arrange transport and accommodation themselves.

• Handle end-to-end workflows for whole-slide images (histopathology, cytopathology, hematopathology) including case triage, tissue / scan QC, de-identification and archival
• Identify diagnostic areas of interest on WSIs; mark and outline regions, tiles and objects (cells, nuclei, glands, artifacts) using tools such as QuPath, ASAP and Aperio
• Select fields, mark and capture microscopy micrograph images on microscope or camera as per SOPs; maintain metadata, magnification and scale bars
• Define labeling schema and codebook; label and verify classes and attributes; maintain versioned datasets with audit trails and data dictionaries
• Lead computational and digital pathology projects — plan milestones, allocate tasks, track deliverables and document SOPs for scanning, annotation and QA
• Collaborate with IIT and tech partners on AI projects: prepare training and validation splits, draft annotation guidelines, support algorithm evaluation and provide clinical interpretation for model outputs
• Write systematic reviews, study protocols and journal manuscripts; develop grant applications (ICMR / ANRF / SERB / DBT / WHO) with work-plans, budgets, ethics and data-sharing clauses
• Ensure compliance with ICMR / Institutional ethics, MTAs / DTAs, patient confidentiality and ABDM-aligned data practices; mentor juniors and interns on annotation, labeling and scientific writing
