ICF Specialist Anaesthesia Recruitment 2026: Overview

Integral Coach Factory (ICF) is engaging a Specialist in Anaesthesia at its Railway Hospital in Chennai. This is a full-time contract arrangement to cover the service until a regular Indian Railway Health Service specialist joins or the scheme ends. The appointment carries no right to permanent absorption, and you cannot undertake private practice during the contract.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The contract runs for one year or less. It ends earlier if the regular specialist becomes available or the scheme is withdrawn, so you should assess the engagement as a stop-gap hospital appointment.
• Further engagement: There is no automatic extension or claim to continuing service. The Railway administration may choose to offer a fresh contract for another term; this is separate from extending the existing agreement.
• Ending the contract: Either side may end the arrangement by giving 15 days' notice. The terms also allow termination for physical or mental incapacity and immediate termination for activities against the interests of the Medical Department or Railways.
• Regular recruitment: Your contract service does not create a right to regularisation or absorption. The notification also says it will not count towards consideration of service in a later regular selection through the Union Public Service Commission.
• Private work and housing: Private practice is prohibited. You will not be entitled to Railway quarters under this engagement, so the contract should not be read as offering staff accommodation.
• Orientation: You must complete a brief two-week orientation. Detailed instructions for your contract duties will accompany the offer if you are selected.
• Time off: Sundays and national holidays are normally off. Authorised absence accrues at two days per month, subject to the contract conditions and the amount already earned; absence beyond the permitted entitlement can reduce pay.
• Permission to leave: Get permission from the controlling authority before leaving your place of work during leave or a national holiday. The normal holiday provision remains subject to the clinical responsibilities set out in the contract.
• Administrative limits: The role has restrictions on staff administration, medical recommendations, confidential reports and decisions about equipment. You will not have general financial powers; any permitted imprest-account work needs the prescribed countersignatures.
• Interview travel: ICF will not reimburse travel or daily expenses for attending. Plan your journey with this condition in mind.

• Handle normal clinical work assigned to the contract medical practitioner
• Attend medical emergencies and accidents
• Issue sick or fitness certificates for up to 7 days
• Arrange countersignature by a regular Railway Medical Officer for certificates beyond 7 days
• Prepare staff performance reports when requested
• Operate any permitted imprest account within Railway medical rules and obtain required countersignatures
