GU Research Posts Recruitment 2026: Overview

Gauhati University (GU) is building a small interdisciplinary team for a sponsored weather and climate research project at its Guwahati campus. The work brings atmospheric science together with artificial intelligence, scientific computing and field instrumentation. Both appointments are project-based, so they suit researchers who want hands-on experience with forecasting systems, climate datasets and research-grade electronics rather than a regular university post.

Posts and Disciplines

• Post-Doctoral Fellow: an independent research role focused on AI-based weather prediction, climate modelling, large meteorological datasets and publication-quality analysis. The fellow will also support the wider project team and research scholars.
• Project Associate-I: an applied role connecting sensors, electronic systems and data acquisition with weather-data processing, scientific programming and machine-learning models.

Post-wise Duties

Post-Doctoral Fellow

You will plan and conduct independent weather and climate research, train prediction models, evaluate climate simulations and turn the findings into papers and project reports. You will also help guide project staff and research scholars while keeping the research deliverables on track.

Project Associate-I

You will combine instrumentation and scientific software by testing sensors and data-acquisition systems, processing meteorological datasets and developing analysis tools. The role also involves field measurements, laboratory experiments and technical documentation, so it fits someone comfortable moving between hardware and code.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the initial appointment is for one year and may continue up to three years, depending on satisfactory performance and available project funds.
• Project link: the appointments are temporary and end with the sponsored project; they are not regular university positions.
• Interview travel: shortlisted applicants must attend the interview at their own cost because no TA or DA is payable.
• Joining condition: candidates awaiting a doctoral provisional certificate may be considered for the fellowship, but must produce it before joining under ANRF norms.
