GBPNIHE Research Associate-II Recruitment 2026: Overview
G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, wants one Research Associate-II for a project funded by the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS). The project is called "Creation of an Integrated Database of the Himalayan Biodiversity for Mainstreaming in Policy to meet National Commitments".
The advert comes from the institute's headquarters at Kosi-Katarmal, Almora (Uttarakhand), but the job itself is based at the Institute of Forest Productivity (IFP), Ranchi. If you hold a PhD in ecology, botany, geography, environmental science or a related life science and like working with remote sensing and GIS, this post fits you well.
This is a project-based, purely temporary engagement, not a regular government post. The work centres on mapping and valuing ecosystem services using field data and satellite imagery under the SEEA framework (the UN System of Environmental-Economic Accounting).
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Nationality: Only Indian citizens can apply.
- Nature of the job: The engagement is purely temporary and tied to the NMHS project. The institute can end it at any time without giving a reason.
- Posting: Your place of posting is IFP, Ranchi, but the notice says the selected person can be posted anywhere in India.
- Joining: The selected candidate is expected to join immediately.
- Relaxation for strong profiles: The minimum qualification or experience can be relaxed for exceptionally outstanding candidates.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum bar does not guarantee an interview call. If many people apply, the institute may raise the eligibility bar, so list every extra qualification and research output in your form, with proof.
- Experience proof: Experience without an experience certificate will not be counted.
- Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
