Gauhati HC Group-D (MTS) Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Gauhati High Court, which serves Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, is hiring Group-D Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) for its Aizawl Bench in Mizoram. This is direct recruitment run by the court's Centralized Recruitment Cell in Guwahati, and the posts are open as Unreserved.
The highlight is the education band: you need at least a Class VIII pass, but anyone who has passed HSSLC (Class XII) or higher cannot apply. Because the bench is in Aizawl, the written test also checks your Mizo language skills.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Overqualification bar: you must declare in the form that you have not passed Class XII or above. Hiding a higher qualification leads to rejection and possible legal action.
- Mizo language: the Mizo section is set at Middle School standard and is only qualifying; its marks do not count towards the merit list.
- Tie-break: if two candidates score the same total, the one with more written-exam marks wins; if that is also equal, the older candidate gets preference.
- Job assignment: selected candidates may be placed in any Group-D position as the court needs.
- Marriage rule: a person who has married someone with a living spouse, or who has a living spouse and remarried, is not eligible.
- Government employees: inform your employer before applying, bring a No Objection Certificate to document verification and a Release Order at appointment.
- Vacancies and travel: the number of posts may change at final selection, and no TA/DA is paid for the test or interview.

परीक्षा पैटर्न
Stage I: Written Examination
The written exam carries 70 marks and you will get 1½ hours (90 minutes) to finish it.
- Part 1: General Knowledge/Current Affairs, General English and General Mathematics of Class VIII standard (50 marks)
- Part 2: Mizo language proficiency at Middle School standard (20 marks, qualifying only)
Qualifying Mark: you must score at least 8 out of 20 (40%) in the Mizo section; these marks are not added to the merit list.
Exam Type: Objective multiple-choice questions on an OMR sheet
Stage II: Interview / Viva-voce
The interview carries 20 marks. Candidates are called in a 1:3 ratio (3 per post) on written-exam merit, and you need at least 12 out of 20 (60%) to qualify. Document verification happens at this stage.
