DIAT Project Associate-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a deemed-to-be university functioning under the Department of Defence Research and Development, Ministry of Defence, is hiring Project Associate-I researchers for its Department of Applied Chemistry, Energy and Environment. The positions support a DRDO-sponsored project studying how plasticizers migrate within composite rocket propellants — work that feeds directly into propellant safety and shelf-life research. One post is based at DIAT, Pune and the other at the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune. Selected candidates are also encouraged to register for a Ph.D. at DIAT through the institute's regular admission process, making this a useful entry point into a longer research career. DIAT is one of DRDO's premier academic institutions, training scientists and engineers who go on to work across India's defence research laboratories. Fresh M.Sc. graduates in chemistry or materials science with an interest in defence and energetic-materials research can apply.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The engagement is temporary for two years or co-terminus with the project, whichever comes first.
• Interview mode: DIAT will decide whether the interview is held in-person or via video conferencing, and shortlisted candidates will be informed accordingly.
• No absorption rights: Working as a Project Associate does not entitle you to permanent employment or absorption at DIAT.
• Shortlisting: If a large number of applications are received, the Principal Investigator may shortlist candidates for interview based on qualifications and experience above the bare minimum — so list your academic record and any project work clearly.
• Support provided: A limited medical facility through the institute's MI Room is available during the engagement, in addition to the monthly stipend.
• No TA/DA: Travel expenses for attending the interview are not reimbursed.
