DFS Goa Scientific Officer and Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Directorate of Forensic Sciences (DFS), Department of Home, Government of Goa is filling Scientific Officer (SOC), Scientific Assistant (DNA), Scientific Assistant, Searcher (SOC), Photographer and Videographer posts at its office in Verna, Goa. The SOC posts are tied to scene-of-crime work, and the Scientific Officer experience itself must come from laboratory work or crime scene visits in a State or Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

All posts are purely contractual for one year or until the regular posts are filled, whichever comes first. Treat this as a stop-gap engagement rather than a permanent job. Science graduates and postgraduates who speak Konkani and want hands-on forensic experience in Goa should take a close look.

Posts and Disciplines

• Scientific Officer (SOC): the senior post, open to M.Sc holders in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Zoology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology or Physics who already have forensic lab or crime-scene experience. A doctorate and FACT/FACT+ qualification give you an edge.
• Scientific Assistant (DNA): a post for the DNA side of the lab, for master's holders in Microbiology, Genetics, Zoology, Biotechnology or Forensic Science who studied Zoology at B.Sc level.
• Scientific Assistant: split by division. The Serology division takes life-science specialisations such as Microbiology, Genetics and Biotechnology, Ballistics takes Physics or Forensic Science, and Chemistry and Narcotics takes Chemistry or Forensic Science. Your M.Sc subject decides which division fits you.
• Searcher (SOC): the entry-level scene-of-crime post, open to B.Sc graduates with computer skills.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: one year or until the regular posts are filled, whichever is earlier.
• Pay type: each post carries a fixed consolidated monthly amount, not a pay scale with increments.
• Konkani: knowledge of Konkani is essential. If no suitable Konkani-speaking candidate turns up for the Scientific Officer post, the Government can relax this on the Departmental Selection Committee's recommendation.
• Marathi and FACT: knowledge of Marathi and a FACT/FACT+ qualification in the relevant subject are desirable, not compulsory.
• Fitness and eyesight: the Scientific Officer (SOC), Scientific Assistant (DNA) and Searcher (SOC) posts need you to be physically fit for field duty and to meet the vision standard. Colour blindness, squint, amblyopia, one-eyed vision, any morbid eye or eyelid condition, or a perforated ear drum disqualifies you.
• Computer skills: essential for the Scientific Officer, Scientific Assistant (DNA) and Searcher posts, and desirable for the divisional Scientific Assistant posts.
