Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is hiring 5 senior professionals for the posts of General Manager (Operations), Deputy General Manager (Rolling Stock), Deputy General Manager (Automatic Fare Collection) and Manager (Automatic Fare Collection) on a regular basis. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Recruitment 2026 - 5 Posts

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu, has released Employment Notification No. CMRL/HR/REG/03/2026 for 5 senior posts across the Operations, Rolling Stock and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) departments. These are regular, long-term positions — not contract or deputation roles. Once appointed, you will be on probation for one year if you join as General Manager, or two years if you join as Deputy General Manager or Manager, and your confirmation will depend on your performance during this period. Experienced engineers and officers currently working in Railways, Metro organisations, PSUs or private industry can apply for these leadership roles, and only Indian nationals are eligible.

Vacancy Details

Reservation of posts will follow Government of Tamil Nadu guidelines, and CMRL reserves the right to increase, decrease or cancel any of the notified vacancies depending on its requirements.

Who Can Apply?

General Manager (Operations) - 1 post:

• You need a B.E./B.Tech degree or any graduate degree from a recognised institute.
• If you work in government service, you should be an officer in Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) in Railways or an equivalent grade, or working as Chief Engineer in a State government organisation.
• If you work in a Metro or PSU organisation, you need at least 20 years of relevant experience.

Deputy General Manager (Rolling Stock) - 2 posts:

• You need a B.E./B.Tech in Electrical or Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE).

Deputy General Manager & Manager (Automatic Fare Collection) - 2 posts:

• You need a B.E./B.Tech in ECE, EEE, IT or CSE, or a combination of these disciplines.

Merely meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not guarantee an interview call — CMRL will shortlist candidates at its discretion, and depending on the response received, may also adjust the eligibility criteria for these posts.

Age Limit

• Maximum age is 55 years for General Manager (Operations), 40 years for both Deputy General Manager posts, and 38 years for Manager (AFC), all as on 1 July 2026.
• Age Relaxation: SC / SC (Arunthathiyars) / ST candidates get 5 years relaxation; MBC / DNC / BC (Muslim and non-Muslim) candidates get 2 years; Persons with Disabilities get up to 10 years extra.
• Ex-servicemen get the prescribed age limit plus their length of armed forces service plus 3 years.
• In all cases, your maximum age after relaxation cannot exceed 58 years.

Salary

• General Manager (Operations): Rs. 1,20,000 to Rs. 2,80,000 per month (IDA pay scale).
• Deputy General Manager (Rolling Stock / AFC): Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 2,20,000 per month.
• Manager (Automatic Fare Collection): Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 per month.
• You will also get DA (IDA pattern), HRA at 30% of Basic Pay, a Cafeteria Allowance at 31.5% of Basic Pay, and other benefits like EPF, gratuity and insurance.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Shortlisting: CMRL shortlists candidates based on qualification and experience. Only shortlisted candidates are called for interview.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for a personal interview. CMRL does not pay any travel allowance (TA/DA) for attending the interview.
3. Certificate Verification: Provisionally selected candidates must submit original certificates for verification.
4. Character & Antecedents Verification: CMRL checks that your character and background are suitable for the post before your appointment is finalised.
5. Medical Examination: Selected candidates must clear a medical fitness check before joining.

CMRL reserves the right to withdraw any of these posts at any time without assigning a reason, and candidates found attempting to influence the selection process will be disqualified.

• Oversee day-to-day metro operations, train scheduling and service punctuality

• Prepare operational reports and present them to senior management
