Burdwan Medical College and Hospital (BMC) is recruiting a team for its Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) in the Department of Microbiology. The laboratory supports viral diagnosis and outbreak work in Burdwan district and nearby areas under a nationwide laboratory network funded by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. These are contractual project appointments under the supervision of the laboratory’s principal investigator.

Posts and Disciplines

• Scientist-B Medical: A medical role linking viral diagnosis, outbreak response and coordination with state health teams.
• Scientist-B Non-Medical: A laboratory science role focused on virology investigations, reporting and research output.
• Laboratory Technician: A technical role supporting testing, laboratory records and supplies.
• Data Entry Operator: An office and data role supporting the laboratory’s administrative work.
• Multi-Tasking Staff: A support role within the same laboratory project team.

Post-wise Duties

Scientist-B Medical

You will assess viral outbreaks and coordinate control efforts with state health personnel. The work includes overseeing sample collection and transport, supporting routine viral diagnosis, conducting training and helping develop research projects.

Scientist-B Non-Medical

You will help ensure timely viral laboratory investigations and proper sample handling. You will also prepare research publications, compile periodic laboratory reports and support workshops for medical colleges in the area.

Laboratory Technician

You will support testing and reporting while keeping laboratory documentation organised. This includes inventory records, logbooks, operating procedures and requests for equipment, chemicals and diagnostic supplies.

Data Entry Operator

You will enter and maintain laboratory-generated data. Your work also covers official paperwork, accurate record keeping and the laboratory’s routine office administration.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project period: The engagement falls within the sanctioned period of the 16th Finance Commission, covering 2026-2027 to 2030-2031. Continuation depends on applicable guidelines, sanctioned posts, available funds and satisfactory performance.
• Appointment status: These temporary contracts do not give you a right to a regular post at the college or under the government.
• Joining agreement: You must accept the service terms through an undertaking and execute the required contractual agreement on non-judicial stamp paper when joining.
• Performance and departure: Unsatisfactory performance can lead to termination under the contract. Leaving the engagement ordinarily needs one month’s notice, subject to the agreement.
• Work arrangements: Laboratory and project needs may involve shifts, field visits, sample collection, surveillance and travel outside the station.
• Workplace rules: You must follow the institute’s laboratory, biosafety, administrative and project instructions throughout the engagement.
• Current employment: If you already work elsewhere, secure your employer’s permission before joining the project.
• Recruitment updates: Check the college website for shortlists and scheduling information. The institute will not send individual notices, and its committee’s decisions are final.
