BAOU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU), Gujarat's state open university at Chharodi, Ahmedabad, is filling regular Assistant Professor posts under Advertisement No. 02/2026. The drive spreads across 17 subjects, from Economics and Commerce to Sanskrit, Hindu Studies and Indian Knowledge System (IKS). The key point to notice: more than half of the posts are marked "Online", meaning you will teach the university's online-mode programmes rather than its regular distance-learning courses.
Each post is a single seat earmarked for one reserved or unreserved category, so check the category printed against your subject before you apply. Eligibility follows the UGC Regulations 2018, and the selection itself rests on the interview.
Posts and Disciplines
- Humanities and languages: Hindi, Gujarati, English, Sanskrit and History, with separate seats for regular and online teaching in most of them.
- Social sciences: Economics, Sociology, Social Work, Political Science and Public Administration; the Public Administration seat is reserved for a PwD candidate.
- Commerce and Management: Commerce (one regular seat needs an M.Com with Management) and Management, including one seat in Marketing.
- Computer Science: three seats, two for regular teaching and one for the online programmes.
- Media and information: Journalism and Mass Communication (online) and Library Science.
- Indic studies: Hindu Studies and Indian Knowledge System, both run in online mode.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Online-mode posts: you must already have teaching experience in online mode to apply for any seat marked "Online".
- Sanskrit proficiency: for Sanskrit, Hindu Studies and IKS, you must be able to read, write and speak Sanskrit.
- Shortlisting: the academic score from UGC Appendix II (Table 3A) is used only to shortlist you; the final choice depends only on the interview.
- Interview ratio: up to 15 candidates per post may be called, and you travel at your own cost.
- Working candidates: apply through the proper channel; if it is delayed, send an advance copy by the last date. If you take a job after applying, bring an NOC from your employer to the interview.
- Statutes: anyone appointed is bound by the Gujarat Public Universities Uniform Statutes.
- Right to cancel: the university can withdraw the advertisement or leave any post unfilled.

Apply on the BAOU Samarth recruitment portal, then send a printed copy of the filled form with self-attested documents and the online fee receipt. It must reach the university at "Jyotirmay" Parisar, Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway, Chharodi, Ahmedabad 382481 by Registered Post A.D., Speed Post or Courier.

- Put your name and post applied for on the back of the fee receipt.
